Please vote on porch cushions - lots of pics!
Comments (36)mitch - still waiting for solid tan and a floral sample from FabricGuru. If those don't work out, I think I am going with the solid dark green that I posted above in the very last set of pictures, probably with the floral throw pillows as shown on the settee even though that's not an outdoor fabric. Hopefully the dark (olive?) green won't show the dirt (or other junk) too much. I'm keeping the bold striped cushions that I think you like, since they're outdoor cushions, and even though the green doesn't match, they're going to be on the other side of the porch. I wish I could just find outdoor cushions that fit the other pieces (n matching stripe would be nice) but 1) I think those cushions are a few years old so pattern no longer available) and 2) other chairs are bigger so cushions are too small, the settee also seems to be an odd (smaller) size - 40" wide instead of 44". Thanks for the tip about light-colored Sunbrella, though, I had been considering that (thinking they'd be easy-clean even if they were light) after seeing "Antique Beige Canvas" and "Flagship Papyrus" in Calico Corners the w/e....See MoreTo stripe or not to stripe
Comments (10)Hi AJ - I was just looking through a book called "Decorative Dressmaking" this weekend, and one of the cool things they had was a whole section on using stripes. It is an older book, but the ideas in it were great. Anyway, what they did with their stripes was use them on the fitted jackets, but rotate the stripes to get a miter at the front, and use the stripes sideways on the welt pockets as an accent. I have put the book on hold at the library and will scan the photos for you if you like. It'll probably be 2-3 days before I get the book though. They're fast at our library, but not instant. If you line whatever garment you're going to make, then you can do all kinds of things with the stripes. The garment is supported from the lining more than the fashion fabric. That way it doesn't matter as much if the stripes are on the straight of grain or diagonal. The example in the book was a 1940's pattern that looked a lot like your first example. I like your fabric! It would go with a lot of things. :-)...See MoreFloral On Floral Crime?
Comments (29)Thank Chijim, I find the whole property to be pretty inspiring. Yes it's Provencal and a bit over the top, but it is appropriate. I'm picking out paper and draperies now but I don't think I'd every dare to match the drapes and walls. Is that common? I find the rug less than desirable but a plain rug probably was needed with traditional floor and and all that fabric. It works better without the second print, I think....See MoreJP sale! Comments (181)Here are some pic update from my J&P sale and Wayside Gardens sale. Wayside Gardens sale roses (The Ancient Mariner x2 , Princess Alexandra Of Kent x2 , Darcey Bussell, Tess of the d'Urbervilles) were stressed from shipping in high temperature then got hit by the sun in my garden even they were under a tree, all the new growths died and it took a while with a lot of extra care before some new growths showed up again. Here are the pics of the 2 with slowest growths (The Ancient Mariner and Princess Alexandra Of Kent) taking today. I wasn't sure that these 2 could make it. I'm glad they did. The first J&P sale roses are doing great (Cabana x2, Hypnotized! x2, Daring Spirit (tree), JP 2020 Exclusive Preview Striped). Cabana Faked Hypnotized! Daring Spirit (tree)...See MoreFlo Mangan
