Come see my Craigs List walnut dining room set!
Comments (11)Thanks! Funny, initially I was thinking 1930Âs (I donÂt know why, I know little about what styles were made in what eras). But then I thought of the Depression, and decided perhaps not much furniture would have been made during that time. LindaC (and others) how would I research this style? Any books/resources you could recommend? What would make it Jacobean Revival? The bulbous legs? That was the part I wasnÂt sure I liked. But I liked the other detailing so much, I can learn to like the legs. What market would this style have been made for? High-end, medium, low? gracie, I am in the Midwest, Chicago. I was very happy to get a whole set. Most of the others I looked at on CraigÂs list had only the table, chairs, and china cabinet, and I was holding out for a buffet, since that is the piece I use the most. I would have had to buy one separately if it was not part of the set. Since I already have a large china cabinet (oak, I think much older, bought 10+ years ago from a local antique store), itÂs a bit of a tight squeeze with these big pieces. I had to put the walnut one that belongs to this set in my living room, but surprisingly I think it looks nice there. rosie, have you tried CraigÂs list for your set? If I were you (or your sister) I would hold out and keep trying. The gentleman who sold me this set said he had posted it earlier over the summer, and none of the people who were interested would pay cash. The alternative would have been to sell it to an antique store, which was interested, but the price they offered did not meet the minimum he had set in his mind. If you canÂt sell it on CL and itÂs in good shape that would be an alternative for you; or a consignment shop....See MoreMy first Christmas table setting
Comments (20)Dream, are your dogs leaving your property? They're not killing chickens or sheep or something are they? I just can't imagine why someone would shoot one, let alone two! Have a story to share: My DB was a country school bus driver and his neighbors at the end of the lane had several dogs who would run out into the road barking and biting at the bus tires everytime he drove past--one of the dogs got run over and the Sherriff came to question my DB. Of course my DB told him he would never intentionally run over a dog, but if he did hit one it was because they were running out into the road chasing the bus as well as any other vehicles that came by. Guess the Sherriff then went back to the neighbors and told them it was their responsibility to keep the dogs out of the road and not to call him again. DB felt really bad to think the bus might have run one over, but knew he had no control of whether they got in front of a tire while he drove by. I just hate to hear about things like this, dogs are so trusting and loving, I'd watch out for that guy--takes a really mean person to kill a dog I think. Hope your back was feeling lots better today and that you had a good day back at work. Hope you will feel like creating more tables soon, your's are always so pretty. Take care. Comments (4)Thanks for helping with the pic. I think it hardly does the furniture justice, you have to TOUCH it to see how well made and finished it is. (Guess I'm still in love with this choice). I can't remember the exact shipping cost, in the hundreds. I have ordered several things recently and it did not seem out of line. I found the site by googling and visiting at least fifty sites. I also visited a store with similar items in N. Austin, but their prices weren't that competitive even with the shipping costs. JMX has have great customer service and the delivery guy just picks up Amish furniture and drives it all over the US. You get very personal service from him. I hope to add a hutch next Christmas. This stuff is just perfect for my kitchen since I've given up the formal dining room....See MoreShould my accent chair style match or contrast with my main set?
Comments (5)Thanks, everyone! erinsean , It's just my husband and me, and I'm pretty much the only person who watches TV in this room, and very seldom at that. We have a TV room downstairs that we use 99% of the time, but for the odd time I want to watch on the main floor, or our daughter is home & wants to watch something different, we do want to keep a TV in this room. The new one is a Frame TV, so the vast majority of the time it will be artwork on the screen, no different from having a picture above the sofa. I think it solves the problem of having a seldom-used tv in a room with very little floor space. When I do use it as a tv, I'll watch from my new chair, which will be my reading chair as well. chispa I thought it was normal to have a matching sofa & chair, and then an accent chair. Is this not the case? Or maybe it's having two unmatched chairs together on one side of the room that you suggest would not look right? My husband likes the existing chair and finds it comfortable, so I think we'll keep the set intact. I could get another the same, but it would be quite crowded on that short wall (we've measured). Yes, we're excited for the TV and will be sure to get the 2022 model! Lyn Nielson I'm afraid having the sofa in front of the window is not an option; husband has always been dead set against it, and I'm not crazy about it either. It's a Frame TV, so it will look like a painting above the sofa 99% of the time. It connects by a very small, almost invisible wire to a control box that will be hidden behind the sofa. Sorry, but I can't picture what you mean by pull the club chair forward/ have to walk by it to use the stairs....See MoreDLM2000-GW
