Design Around This #14: Rustic Modern
Comments (140)Actually, the quintessential steampunk piece is a modern computer decked out to look like a 19th century device. I met a guy profiled in the Boston Globe who has a steampunk house, and whose kitchen was featured here once. He was selling a cast iron Victorian stove that had been outfitted with a barely-discernable electric cooktop. It's not so much working Rube Goldberg contraptions as it is window dressing on modern technology. I think of it as a stage set in search of a story. Let's say Steampunk is a definite one month from now, as the project that follows the next one. For the very next one to start this weekend, I'm thinking Hollywood Regency, based on an unscientific review of the preference lists people have posted so far. I would sort of like to do the setup for Steampunk, so if you'd rather I not do two in a row, I can happily defer to pal on the HR project. Thoughts?...See MoreVery. Late. Reveal. Small, rustic, white oak kitchen. Pic Heavy
Comments (137)So I'm a year late in commenting but SO happy I got to see this amazing kitchen, thanks to the "best reveals" thread. I followed this with interest and worried a little, you seemed so ambitious in including a gazillion good ideas and I wasn't sure it would lead to a cohesive, attractive result. It is a stunning kitchen, full of beauty and functionality but it is more than that, you've infused it with depth and soul. Congratulations!...See MoreNeed help to pull off "Lodge" look with Shiloh Polar White Cabinets?
Comments (67)Oh shoot - I am so sorry! We finally had some decent weather so I have been outside as much as possible and yesterday was so busy at work! Sometimes that's just what it takes - enough photos for your to confirm your heart and minds eye or give warning that maybe it's not what you want in the scheme of things after all. It is going to look sharp! We have similar schemes going on. ;) Our master is the maple sable with black glaze-you have selected a nice door choice it will pick up the glaze more. I nod to the polar white - yes I do. It looked so stark in the showroom that I didn't even bring it home (slap the forehead how dumb was that-I totally knew all about the lighting differences in spaces and how they change things, so dumb?)! Ha! It's all good, I don't dislike the soft cabinets really - just the trim. ;) I went with silas on the island because I didn't want to clash or matchy match the floor we had already selected (medium hickory) so in essence did the same as you but opposite. For posterity: Island - Hickory Silas stain with black glaze. See above comment - in the show room polar looked really white and I knew we'd likely have leathered black granite on top of them - I was worried it would look like a black/white 'period' kitchen although that's fine the house isn't period and it wasn't what I was going for. Here are my soft white with the granite:...See MoreNew build-kitchen> Island granite ct warm woodtone & cool tone mix?
Comments (65)Yes, on a Sunday- The drywallers showed up this am to start putting up the sheet-rock.. FLo- waiting on a rendering/drawing for the 2 masterbath towers from the kd. Went to the local little island hardware store that carrys BM paint, brought back a bunch of paint chips to look at in the house for a start.. Because the house is very open, looking for something that I can use in/for kitchen, foyer, Dr & living areas. Jan- we are building on a small island, off of another island, no designers here on this island...I agree with you on the floor issue, I just need to convince dh- about the flow and using wood throughout....See Morelucky998877
