Well we are in the 90's for the past 4 days (usual heatwave for us) and they say we will go back down after tomorrow into the 80's. Thank goodness. I have a shipment of daylilies coming this week and the thought of trying to get them into the ground during this heatwave makes me sweat. I want to be sure I'm giving the fans enough time to adjust/grow before frost sets in so I guess early September is the latest? Julia

I made several boxes, 5 feet by 15 inches (they looked like hobbit coffins) and lined them up in fifteen foot runs. My idea was that if I got tired of using them for veggies, I could put them here or there in the yard as planters for irises or whatever, and the weight wouldn't be too bad so one person could move them. However, having boxes like that makes it hard to run a soaker hose under the soil surface. You either have to loop the soaker hose above the end walls of the boxes, or drill holes to run the hose. If I were to do it again, I'd use 16 foot 2x10 or 2x12 so I could have an uninterrupted run of hose. I'd also securely affix a small vertical pipe to the inside of the box with a female garden hose fitting poking out above the surface, and a male garden hose fitting under the surface attaching to the completely buried soaker hose. That way if anyone pulls on the supply hose it doesn't disturb the soaker hose. Why sixteen feet? Because that's the length of the cattle panel I use for a trellis; or, as you can see in the picture, you can bend three of them into Gothic arches to make 'a cathedral of tomato worship'.

The above is correct. Please make sure the soil does not completely dry out. Water needs depend on several variables, including what & how much medium they're in, type of pot, how much direct sunlight they're receiving, climate, etc. I'm relatively new to adeniums and would like to share my experiences. I hope you don't mind. I have also read the bottom water / top water recommendation. My experience is that it makes sense when seedlings are small ... You don't want to inadvertently disturb seeds / seedlings by uprooting them. I take a handful of water and slowly release it onto the soil when the seedlings are under 3 weeks. Everyone has their own method ... Whatever works! As a rule of thumb, I try to water only on sunny days and skip watering when skies are overcast. This allows plants to dry back a little bit and not remain overly wet. Also, never wet a plant while it's under full sun or it can get scorched. I'm coddling my babies and keep them on a tray, bringing them in whenever it's going to rain. Over the course of 3 month, I have sown 25 seedlings. Since I'm growing small scale, I use egg cartons because the individual cells allow me to keep track of when each seed germinated. Of course, I make drainage holes at the bottom of each cell. I also tape up the side holes & use the lid as a drip tray. At about three weeks old I transferred the seedlings into Activia/Light & Fit yogurt cups (w/drainage holes), which are a perfect height for deep root formation. I first fill each cup with soil & fully water the pot. Then I use a plastic fork to lift out the seedling with its surrounding soil, fill in surrounding area, and water in. Careful not to plant seedling deeper than it originally was. I also just transferred three 3-month-olds into 4 inch pots. I found that keeping everything in direct sunlight is best (for my climate). Seedlings grow fatter / bigger, and seeds germinate better. I also begin fertilizing seedlings weekly weakly at three weeks of age. Hope you find this information helpful.

Sweet Monkey, I m also in the investigating edging / border. I ve had garden with and without. Without, the lawn guys just end up making the beds bigger and bigger or end up weed whacking your prize plants. Weeding is a never ending job but the right border edging goes along way in helping keep mulch in place etc. I personally love the flat natural stone path border. I can also see the more artistic borders in a more artistic garden. Oldmanroot, I reading on my phone so I can't see your picture that well but are those coral rocks? If so, I especially like them cause they give the perfect nod to a Florida bed! helen
