Eastgate - Both bathrooms are 5 feet deep. The ceramic tiled bathroom is just over 7 feet wide. It works but I wouldn't necessarily suggest the size if you weren't confined by it already. I didn't want to have to give up bedroom space to make it bigger so it stayed. The small sink that we kept helped us keep everything in scale. Even a small vanity or pedestal sink would have taken up too much room. The marble bathroom is 5x9 if I remember correctly. Its a lot more spacious. Two feet really makes a difference. jejvtr - The house was built around between 1905-1910 - we're not sure since we don't have any original records. The beams were all okay but the cement under the tiles in all the bathrooms had to be redone. The subway tile we used is just basic cheapo subway tile - not the authentic reproduction totally flat type. Thats the one I wanted but at 15x the price, I simply couldn't bring myself to spend so much money on it. Now thats its all installed, Im glad I didn't and put my money into other things. We took the original tile from this bathroom and salvaged what we could for our kitchen backsplash. One of those details no one but us would know but its nice to know the tiles that were in the bathroom that could be saved got reused elsewhere. We actually did 5 bathrooms but one is in the downstairs rental and one is a half bath in the basement. Both nothing to write home about stylistically. CEFreeman - All good considerations! The only change from what I'm used to working with now is that the drainboard is on the opposite side of the sink to where I'm used to setting my dishes. Since this is a new kitchen in a new apartment, I'll be adapting to everything else anyhow, so I don't forsee it being a problem. Twodogs - All the features will be rounded so there are no "crud catchers" including rounding the cutting board to fit in the rounded lip on the counter. I could model it that way in the program, but I am lazy and it would take too long for what it's worth - sorry for the confusion. I understand what you're describing about the different planes - it's the best compromise I could come up with to keep both my sliding cutting board and my apron front sink. It also simplifies the sink casting so that the complex lip edge is built into the countertop instead. I think of it as the apron announcing "this is the sink area" and the encroaching countertop on the right is just a fancy feature. Hollysprings - Thanks for the informative post! I plan on doing four big pieces: the island, the sink, and the long run in two separate sections split by the sink. Our cabinets are being custom built out of quality plywood, and I had a long discussion with the cabinetmaker about considerations for the countertop - they are plenty sturdy. Marcolo - I have a 12.5' run of base cabinets plus a little home plate shape next to the stove in the island (I am considering doing that spot in walnut butcher block - thoughts?). Here's the sink in context of the larger kitchen (with an older sink version, but you can see the garbage drop): Bill - That's intense! You can wash a FULL sheet pan - industrial baking size. That wouldn't even fit in my oven. Standard cookie sheets (a "half" sheet pan - thanks Wikipedia!) are 18" long, so 19" should be plenty. The the interior of my oven is 24"x18" so it's feasible that I could buy and use a pan longer than 19", but that would probably be a once-a-year sort of thing (I use cookie sheets much, much, much more often). I have had my fireclay sink with a garbage disposal for more than a year. I have 3 teenage sons who are NOT gentle and I use the sink and disposal multiple times a day. After reading some negatives about fireclay, I have put on bright lights and readers to see if there are any hairline cracks, scratches etc. - and after 15 months - NOTHING. The sink still looks brand new. My contractor was careful not to over tighten the disposal - and I use sponges designed not to scratch and softscrub when needed - but the fireclay surface is so smooth and easy to wipe clean. I chose the Alfi Shortwall because I had limited space, wanted a double sink - but also didn't want pan handles sticking out. It is an ideal solution. At the time I purchased the sink, they did not make custom grids, but after reading some negatives about fireclay, I bought cheap rubbermaid grids from Amazon.com. They have been awesome and have provided me with a lot of peace of mind. Bluebath now carries custom grids for my sink, but I really don't see the need. The rubbermaid grids are hinged for easy access to the drain/disposal - and after more than a year, they still look great. I pop them in the DW occasionally to sanitize them. Thanks! I asked my cabinet maker for repose grey cabinets, they are a conversion varnish that is supposed to be matched to repose grey. The sample turned out lighter/less grey than I was expecting, but we liked it so stuck with it. They are still grey but fairly subtle... almost a greyish off white rather than GREY. They do look whiter in the pic than in real life. We use the drawers under the washer all the time, mostly for clean clothes or empty laundry baskets (I wanted a place to store these things since there isn't a dedicated closed off laundry space). I liked the pedastels that come with washers for the height raise, but found the storage useful and didn't understand why it couldn't be functional. The drawers were specifically sized to fit a laundry basket. My only issues with the setup is getting the units in and out is a little tough and a two person job. The laminate counter they were on got a little chipped and the adjacent cabinet got scratched one of the first times we had to move them (had some install issues with the ducting that requiring pulling them out several times, turned out it was plugged up by the hvac people and no one knew). Now that I know to be very careful with them and protect the counter/cabinet a little, it's not a big deal. The hanging bar next to the washer/dryer was a great idea too and use that all the time as well.
