Has anyone ordered their contact lens online?

I need new glasses and new contacts. I thought I could do glasses now and contacts in early 2022. However I learned that my insurance will only help with one thing in a 12 month period. Since contacts can be ordered online I’m thinking of going that route. My office will give me both a glasses and a contact lens script.

I always order them online. I get my script from the eye drs office. Last year I ordered from contactkings dot com. Went to their website this year to reorder, the price more than doubled and they added a $31 "processing" fee. wth?

So I started searching. Best price I can up with was at Sam's Club! I actually called them because I was having trouble with their site. And NO "processing" fee. Free shipping to the house also.

I think I used 1-800-CONTACTS once. It’s been many years, but I recall thinking the price difference wasn’t all that much, and I’d just as soon give the profit to the local guy.

I'm guessing that the "brand names" are rather proprietary, so they don't want folks to buy generics of the same specifications at a cheaper cost. They'd be out of business in no time at all. I've worn "hard" contact lenses for 32 years. Been wearing the gas perms ever since they were "invented." Been there, done that with the monovision - hated it. I have true bifocal gas perms now. They're great! Why not just ask your eye doctor (from whom you got the gas perms) what it would cost for a spare pair? Paula is absolutely correct. For long-term storage of "hard" lenses, you should clean them thoroughly, then put them in a clean, dry contact lens case. Put a piece of tape on the bottom that has the date, and any Rx info that you might have.

morton, thanks for the compliment on my pool, can't believe you remembered my color. impressive memory! i will give that set a try, can't really hurt. just looking to cut down on the bright whiteness of that new light. repair_guy, yes, i do understand that this is not the cutting edge technology, or the nicest way to do this. but i am just trying to work with what i have, since I just paid over $300 for this light and installation last month. and i am a believer in the saying that "willful waste makes for woeful want" so i just try to do the best with what i have if it is perfectly functional.

Here's a fun study in contrasts. 1st pic is of our kitchen, just before finishing. Wide aisles, at 48". Incredible, kitchen "quadrangle" for cooks. Taken by either me or my contractor. 2nd pic is of the whole room, from the kitchen, by a pro- wide lens, again pre-fnish- built in floating media cabinet on the TV wall, shelves on niches not yet added. Look how cavernous the 2nd pic looks. Looks like 7' between the main sink to the left (not visible in the photo, and the island. Lol. Also makes the cabinets appear reddish, when they aren't. I'm not sure that's good marketing, as it gives a false impression of the home- could turn some people off, or could lead to unrealistic expectations, even when they "know" the total square footage.

I went from RGP lenses to daily soft lenses. RGPs have the crispest vision, but i find soft lenses trounce gas permeables in other areas. Much more confortable, a new fresh lens every day, no fear of dropping and losing or damaging one, you never have to clean them-just toss at the end of the day, no painful dust or debri under the lens. I wore hard lenses then gas permeables since the 70’s and switched a couple of years ago. I’d never go back! DH ordered my last RX thru lens.com and tbey were backordered. Previosly I got them thru the eye DR but its pricey doing that. My lenses have never ripped and I’m not careful with them. Your eye DR should be able to get you several days of free trials. It costs nothing to try them out to see if you like them. I’ve never once heard one type of lens is healthier than the other.

I used to use 1-800-contacts regularly, and without issue. In recent years though (particularly during Covid since I wasn't going out much), I've begun to wear my eyeglasses more and more, and so it's been a while since I've placed an order. I also noticed that although their prices were much less when I first started ordering from them, they began to level out over time. It is convenient, so I'll probably order from them again the next time I need some.

Contacts are easy to order online. I never found a huge cost savings.

The people sitting here are awesome. I have memberships at both Costco and Sam’s but never even thought of them. I’ll look into their prices. Thank you!

Happy with 1 800 Contacts as well. It's convenient, especially if you are away from home and need lenses.

I never even thought to check Amazon! I don't know what contacts everyone has, but I have multifocal contacts. 1-800-contacts was very expensive for mine. Do they charge a "processing" fee? Almost every website that came up on a google search had a processing fee. Ridiculous.

I just looked up mine on 1-800 contacts. 1 box of Proclear multifocal is $104.99 with a 25% discount for your first order they are $78.74. I paid $44.84 per box for the exact same contacts from samsclubcontacts dot com. Good luck.

I order contacts from Walgreens or through my eye doctor. Contact lens brands sometimes offer special promotions through the doctor. I go for the best deal of the two. There was no processing fee when I ordered from Walgreens or through my doctor.

Walgreens online promotions vary from 20% - 25% off. After brand rebates that range from $30 - $50 off, you save money. I’ve never ordered from 800 contacts or other online places because I saw reviews complaining about looming expiration dates. With Walgreens or my doctor I get contacts with expiration dates 4 years into the future! That’s important to me.
