Finally, my Master Bedroom UPDATE !!!
Comments (38)Exactly, although I really appreciate your critique of my bedroom space. DH would not allow me to switch chest of drawers. That's his "side" of the room, bed, bench, lol. Y'all don't know what it took to talk him into curtains! Although, he has been pretty good throughout this decorating process. I did previously try to put the basket under the side table, but it is too tall with the pillows and would be a pain to get under to retrieve them. As for the air return, I cannot block it with anything that large and solid. You should have seen the dust on the solid painted screen. The heating and air guys were not thrilled with that, either. One of these days, I'll see the perfect console table to put there, but in the meantime, that's what I feel comfortable with and it's staying. I can't believe y'all have not seen these decorative screens as just that...decorative! Must be a southern thing. Anyhow, all I wanted to do is show you my newly revamped space because it is such a big improvement over what it was. Thank you for the kind words, tryingtodecorate. The color is Decatur Buff in the bedroom, and my fireplace wall is as well. I have considered painting that entire wall like the trim color, a paneled look like my previous home (seen below) and may do so when we replace the fireplace box (another story.) yayagal - We may sell, so come on!...See MoreUpdate on dining room progress--finally :)
Comments (15)lavender, thank you, and thanks for the vote on the stair spindles. When I have a free minute I've been taping off where the spindles meet the treads, so after the ceiling trim is up, it's a go. marti, I think she was more than half in jest, but the room is painted, so it must have worked! shadygrove and shades, thank you. Do you all realized that you get to see my new stuff before almost anyone else? I just want to say that I really appreciate everyone's encouragement. I've been busy the last couple of days, routing and painting the new ceiling trim. I put up the filler on the top of the DR cabinet this morning, then my father wandered in with a bucket of cherry tomatoes. Lol, any idea how many cherry tomatoes one has to halve to fill a dehydrator? A bunch--but aren't these the cutest little things?!...See MoreFinally...Update on my bedroom
Comments (37)Your money, but I guess I donÂt see spending that kind of money for something that is just about a look, if you are suggesting that it wonÂt really be used. Remember, your room is YOUR design - be inspired by the pix you posted, but donÂt feel bound by it. I would rather see you spend money on a pair of great euroshams and a decorative pillow, or a chair for the corner. If all that you want is a folded comforter on the end of the bed, you should be able to find one for a much more reasonable price. As for what to put in it, I think you need to be careful - stuffing it with a duvet and folding it might end up with a big ivory lump at the end of the bed. And considering the look you want, I would not do a full/queen, I think it will be too big. I believe you said that your mom sewed the curtains (nice job!) so why not buy two twin sheets in a pretty shadow stripe, have her sew on two bands of trim; one blue, one brown, perhaps, using pre-made trim, or even a single wider band of the leftover fabric from the drapery - now that would be a custom look! Do that on the sheet that will be the top of the duvet cover, then sew them together to make the cover. Add some pretty mother of pearl buttons for the closure. Stuff with a cheap white twin comforter (not too fluffy) and call it a day? If she could use another matching sheet to make a couple of euro shams and add a button in the center of each covered in the drapery fabric, youÂd be good to go! As for matching the coverlet on the bed, you donÂt really want to do that - it isnÂt that way in your inspiration pix, and having some shades of color ties everything together and gives the room depth....See Moreupdate: finally finished kitchen (white & soapstone)
Comments (36)Thanks, everyone! Let me try to respond to your questions and thoughts: @thedinos, my Miele is an H4044BM. It isn't hard to clean--the glass tray slides out easily and cleans nicely. BUT, the broiler heating element is hard to clean--it's been splattered with something, so when I use the broil, setting, I'm getting a smokey mess. I tried cleaning it, but didn't have much luck (I didn't try too hard!) and now I use my big oven to broil. @aek9y, I LOVE my griddle! I use it so often, I'm amazed! It's a workhorse! @gabytx12, my cabinets are not the whitest white they offered. But I'm pretty sure the color is called "white", haha! I know they said their colors match up with benjamin moore colors, but I don't recall anymore what that match up was? They did give me a touch-up kit. I'm very happy with the color--and the finish--I think it's perfect :) the island is a dark brown stain, not black, maybe espresso? and we originally had a nicer wood, but downgraded to the maple that our painted cabinets are, too...and I'm happy with it! I really love the contrast of my soapstone on white cabs and the marble on my dark cabinets. It makes me so happy! And I'm also so glad that I used 2 different counter surfaces. I use them differently--and my marble is so strong and sturdy, for all the use it gets! And I feel like my soapstone is just MINE--I'm the only one who works on it--like it's my little secret :) So great!! and thanks to everyone else--CEFreeman and aokat, great to hear from you again! I know you know my troubles to get to this point! It was a long process, but if not for that process, I never would have ended up with this kitchen! It just feels so right in my house and makes my house feel complete! I'm so happy!!...See MoreAlisande
