Front door/exterior design decisions. 1950's brick ranch.
Comments (2)I would remove the shutters. (And you can’t add ones to the big window as they will not fit properly). Your storm is black, so paint the front door black. Would probably go with the color of the corner brick on the vertical siding and all the house trim, as well. The white is just too bright....See MoreCraftsman/Cape Exterior Window Decision Dilemma
Comments (6)You have a lovely house but it looks chopped up. The two parts, each with a door, kinda makes your house look like a semi-detached house. I think once you decide on your windows, you should try and make this house look more cohesive. Perhaps changing the colour of your siding to match closer to the grey shake colour and not white like you are thinking. I would definitely play down the door on the right and make it disappear. Perhaps you could achieve this with landscaping and really make your actual front door be the focal point. Maybe plant mid-sized shrubs and a couple freestanding trellises with climbing plants so it's blocked off from the front door and hidden or partially hidden from the street. It doesn't look like you have a sidewalk to the door on the right which you could add. I think your goal should be cleverly disguising the utility door so your actual front door is the focal point by unifying styles and colours and adding landscaping....See MoreExterior colors help
Comments (2)IMO stone and brick never work together on the same house. Since the entry looks quite nice with the brick I would remove the stones and replace with siding them go to a nic egrayed green for all the siding . Gutters are not a design element and should be the same as the roof color to make them disappear. I do not like blues with brick so this is my fave with brick. You could also replace the stone with brick for a nice finished look....See MoreHelp! Exterior paint color decision
Comments (10)Hi T Lee, I love your house! I don't think you need a lighter color, but I think the issue with the Mindful Gray is that your roof and stonework make it look greenish, at least on my computer screen. You might try a more neutral gray, such as SW Gray Screen; if you have a sample of your stone, you could bring it to the paint store and choose what looks best with it. In any case, be sure to paint a big sample on your house before you decide. I think all black works well for your door and sidelights, white would just be an unnecessary distraction. (You may also need to tweek the undertones of your white trim - ask in the paint store which white goes best with the gray that you select. Good luck, this is a problem that it would be fun to have!...See MoreAphaea
