Kitchen gut/reno, when to stain new hardwood

Our full kitchen gut/reno begins tomorrow. We are removing our tile floor and installing hardwood. I can't decide if I should have the hardwood stained and poly prior to the cabinet install or after. If after, my contractor would install the toekicks and baseboards after the stain and poly completed.

I keep going back and forth. If the stain and poly done before ,I have to hope my contractor protects the floors enough and there is no damage.

If the stain and poly is done after the kitchen completed, then I have to worry about my new cabinets and counters getting all dusty or damaged, although the hardwood installer indicated they would wrap the cabinets in plastic.

WWYD? TIA
