help orchid stalk broke in half
Comments (1)Good evening. Well to start off, you can take a deep breathe and don't worry your orchid will be just fine. What you have is a flower spike that has appeared to have broken in half. Your orchid itself will be just fine. The only thing is you won't get to enjoy those beautiful flowers that were developing on that spike (aka stalk you mentioned). Now depending on weather or not the break occurred above a node on the spike, it may or may Not push another spike out of the node and rebloom again for you. So at this point leave the rest of the spike on the plant and wait to see if it will respike again for you just below the break. It might take 2-3 weeks but as long as that spike doesn't turn brown you may see it go again. For future reference, be sure to support your flower spikes with twiste ties or something to help support the weight of the flowers and the spike. When you start getting 10,12,14 or more flowers on the end it tends to get really heavy, hence the snapping of the spike. Best of luck to you and your growing. Comments (5)Yeah the small weeds on the bottom appear to be oxallis. They like the same growing conditions as most orchids in bark so remove them early or they can really dig their roots into the pot. Other than the minor weed problem, your plant looks healthy....See Moreorchid flower stalk trimming...?
Comments (8)Cut it down as far as you can reach, no sense in leaving anything behind. And no need to do cinnamon either. The spike will die faster than any infection can take hold. Aside: I'm not personally a fan of cinnamon, it has anti-rooting properties and I cringe every time I hear people suggest it, especially suggesting a dusting on the roots *D'OH!* Plenty of people use it, but I don't and I haven't had any infections as a result of cuts or damage in the decade I've been growing....See MoreMy Orchid is growing a flower stalk!
Comments (3)Arthrum, copied and pasted a new post on my orchid with the Picture of the lil red flower stalk, thinking I could delete this one, But I guess you cannot delete original posts. I am sorry, and embarrassed. I have a post with picture up with the heading "Phal has first blooms for me". Thank you for checking up on me, hope your day was great....See Moredazed77
