Harry Potter et. al. has had definite staying power. When Lego/amusement parks are in you know it's not going anywhere!! Nothing resurgent really. Two/three years ago Pottery Barn had a HUGE offering of home decor and Christmas items. I wonder how long it takes for a book series to become a TRUE classic? I would say they are on their way. The books one reads to their children stick hard! The time of life, Animal Ark book series, Harry Potter...great summers of reading for us!! The offspring I read to are now mid twenties and they got Harry Potter 12 days of Christmas socks in their stockings three years ago!!!

I watch all the movies at least once a year. So enjoyable to me!

We are a Harry Potter family. My kids grew up with me reading almost all the books to them. The last couple, they read on their own because they were teenagers by then.

We have all the books and enjoyed the whole series. I remember the anticipation as each new volume was due. Someday I'll start with the first, and binge-read all the way through. But I'm okay without the t-shirt, butterbeer, or trip to Disney Hogwarts.

Went and checked out the stuffed animals Kohl's has--gotta say they were not WOW. The owl is nice but the other's just don't do it for me. It's ok you couldn't recall Crookshanks name--the Kohls version would never be mistaken for Hermione's cat!!

I wouldn't mind going to Disney's Hogwarts. A friend went some years ago, she drank some butterbeer and then went on a ride. Do I need to tell you what happened next? She was SO glad when the ride stopped. ha

One of the reasons the books/movies were so popular is that there were so many interesting, well drawn supporting characters. Anyone could find a person they identified with, you weren't limited to the 3 heroes. My favorite was Luna.

Very true Nickel..and I hope for those that have only loved the movies they take the time to read the books. They are awesome and some very good twists never made the movies. I would love to go to Howarts in Florida. I doubt we will ever get back that way but it's #1 on the list if we do! BTW it is not a Disney attraction it is Universal Studios which I wouldn't bother with.

I admit the one time I cried while reading a book was in The Deathly Hallows when Harry is going into the forest to meet Voldmt. and the apparitions (or whatever they were called) of his parents come to him and he says to his mother "Stay with me". For some reason it really got me.

Oh, and I teared up when as Snape lay dying, he asks Harry to "Look at me". He wanted to see Lily's eyes one more time.

I love the Harry Potter series. My kids do too. I started reading it when they were little. They read it in elementary and middle school. We went to visit the Wizarding World at Universal a few years back. I loved it particularly Hogwarts. I didn't care for the ride at the end, but the castle with the talking pictures was cool. Moaning Myrtle was hanging out in the bathrooms. The kids loved the butterbeer. It was too sweet for me. Overall, it was a great experience.

I've only read one HP book. I am pretty sure it was the first. I was honestly blown away by it and totally understood why it's been as popular as it is. It's not my usual genre at all, which might explain why I have so far only read one....but I thought it was brilliant. One of these days I will likely read another one or three.

no worries schoolhouse! I didn't even notice- and chances are when I read the next ones it will be long enough into the future that I probably won't even recognize the main characters.. hey but I 'll enjoy it all just the same.

20 year anniversary maybe? my adult kids still have the original hardbacks. I liked the first couple books and watched one movie but anything my kids loved to read I was for.

Potter fans in my house, for sure. We took my step daughter to Platform 9 3/4 at Kings Cross in London, but our highlight was taking the Jacobite (otherwise known as the Hogwwrts Express) from Fort William to Maillag and back.
