Certainly not here to dispute the name of the Lowes plant. I bought a couple of the same plants, chuckling to myself that ALL of the aloes were labeled Aloe vera. Mine are PIG, growing well and curiously have lost their spots. You can see some of the spots remain on the bottom, oldest leaves. So I'm pondering the label again. Of course it hasn't flowered yet (about 3 years old), which will add to the info. I guess I wonder if Aloe vera pups start with spots. I have no pups to compare. 1. Could be a Spiders egg mass. If so they are not pests but are beneficial, although passive. At this time do nothing. 2. Where was this found? 3. Could be eggs of the Imported Cabbageworm or Cabbage Looper. 4. Might be Powdery Mildew. 5. Unidentifiable from that picture. 6. Unidentifiable from that picture. 7. Could be the Imported Cabbageworm or Cabbage Looper. Early control of these cabbage pests involves the use of Bacillus thuringinsis - Kurstaki with Spinosad for later stages. The pyrethrums are very broad spectrum poisons that should be used only as a last resort.

Typically, lack of humidity is the culprit. Spider mites like it warm and dry......the usual conditions indoors. I have no idea how big your fig is but hosing or spraying it down with water periodically (like once a week) will help. So will spraying with a horticultural oil like neem oil. Neem oil is a particularly effective miticide.

Of course! here is a pic of the whole plant. It seems healthy, but I thought I should take measures before it gets out of control. Thanks party_music50 for the potential identification... I looked it up and the pics on the net look very similar.... so that could well be it. I wonder if these bugs are going to enjoy eating my aloe after it has been marinaded in neem oil.

Oh, by the way, I was reading that the way to deal with leafminer is to cut off all the effected leaves (that would be all of them in this case) and squeeze the effected areas on new emerging leaves. Apparently squeezing the leaves crushes the larvae.... I am hoping that neem oil and detergent alone would be enough because the other method sounds like it was invented by someone who has something against plants.
