Removing Laquer From Brass Faucet - Tips/Tricks/Warnings?

Hello, I am renovating my kitchen, and would like an unlaquered brass faucet that will naturally patina. Strangely (but unsurprisingly) unlaquered brass faucets are much more expensive than the same exact faucet with a finish. Go figure.

So, I’m reading the many posts online on how to remove laquer from brass: baking soda/boiling water, acetone, citrastrip, etc., and the impression I get is that it’s pretty simple/not so bad. I am worried, however, about the impact of these processes/chemicals on the non-brass parts, namely the hose and buttons of a pulldown faucet. Has anyone done this? Furthermore, does anyone have recommendations as to finishes that are easier to remove (ie. brushed vs. shiny, etc?) I even saw a feature on Architectural Digest’s website where someone started with a chrome plated brass faucet with beautiful results.

Thanks for any and all tips!!
