I can't give you any advice on the shook hill but we bought a fiberglass door with wood trim and I think the only difference might be the weight and feel of a real wood door vs the fiberglass. You could probably cross post on window/door forum and get more responses.

There is significant disappointment on our end as well as the builder that this was missed by the architect along the way. In fairness to the architect, the builder allowed us to work with the architect to develop the plans we love prior to any $ commitment from us but he did not want to pay for the survey until we were invested. So, here we are. We are disappointed because the length of the home has been established for several months and the width of the property has as well. The survey and site plan were just officially performed but the inputs are the same and have been known...so we are disappointed but still love the floorplan, location, etc. and want to make the best runner up choice we can :)

Dark screening on windows appears to be solar screen, if so it needs to cover the whole window area to be effective. What many people are doing is covering the whole area or take the screen off completely. Most homes on the market for sale have the screens removed and the new owners do not put them back on the windows. People are not sitting on their front porch or out in the front yard, unless they live on acres out in the country. During the spring and summer, hang three or four flowering baskets along the front. Plant a couple of seasonal flowers on the other side of the steps. Congratulations on your new home!

There is a smothering feel that comes from having the first floor wall portion of the house mostly covered with foliage. Raise the canopy of any trees and keep shrubs from coming above windows, or too high up on the house. The bed should be deep enough that plants can be positioned to grow in all directions. (Usually, the bed is too shallow, plants are placed next to house and can only grow forward, in the direction of the street.) Use a shrub below the windows for permanent foliage, a perennial for some seasonal interest and some annuals for ongoing color. In addition to the walk, the shape of the bed can indicate, and reinforce where the entrance might be ... even if it cannot be seen immediately. The condition of the grass is even more important in a small lawn where it is seen from relatively nearby. If it is blemished, it diminishes the look of everything else. So work to get it into good condition. My picture shows a scheme. The plants you choose and their colors would provide the actual personality. If you use a fairly large shrub in order to create a small tree, and it has a limited height, you don't need to worry about it getting too tall, You only need to trim off the lower limbs and branches as it grows, which is easy to do and infrequent. Thus, it's lower maintenance.
