I'd go with a bit wider mirror, myself, with a wider frame. Not quite so tall. Try the sconces a little lower; they might fit in your composition better. Love those mantle candlesticks.

I think either a larger mirror or don’t hang it. Lean it against the wall. Off centered.
And then add either the other plant or something else.

Agree with the larger mirror and leaning it against the wall, but I would keep it centered since its between the 2 sconces.

There is a larger version of the same mirror - I think it is about 2 inches wider and a few inches taller. - maybe I should switch this one out for that one.

My preference would be art instead of a mirror. It seems better than a mirror reflecting the ceiling fan. With the mirror, I would remove the item in the center of the mantel and clear the hearth. I actually think it would work with just the mirror (no candlesticks or vases) and the sconces moved in closer. I just like simplicity with mantels and hearths.

Why do you want to see the fan twice IMO mirror should always reflect something worth seeing twice unless they are in a batroom or entry to see yourself.A nice piece of art is amuch better choice.

Beauty or interest should be the focus of a mirror, especially above a mantel. You can hang a piece of art that's as wide as the firebox opening. If you really prefer a mirror, go wider and taller.

The mirror actually reflects something different depending on where you stand and how tall you are (I am quite short so that is why in my pics it sometimes reflects the fan). I had art there the decorator thought a mirror would be better because because "it makes the room feel larger and more open" and it reflects light.

Those who are suggesting art on the mantel, could you post some ideas of paintings/pictures that would look nice?

I've kept this photo on file since I like the way this mantel is done. I know it's completely different than yours, but the simplicity is there.

I really like this one. It is 31" wide/across. The firebox is 39 inches across.

I recently changed my fireplace decor with the help of my houzz friends :) I too leaned my mirror.

Mary, I think that would work. I read somewhere that anywhere from 2/3 to full firebox size is good.

I much prefer a piece of art to a mirror. The first one could be hung a few inches over the mantle.

What I like about the blue painting is that it brings some color into the room. I can see adding some more dusty blues to the room.

I agree the blue does bring some color in. I also like the way the lighter one contrasts with the wall. Either would be nice.
