Help me decide on type of bathroom mirror(s)
Comments (5)I like a mirror with a frame stained to match the cabinetry like this first picture or two separate mirrors centered above each sink each with a fixture centered above each mirror. In this second photo there are sconces but I can imagine it with lights like one linked here, a pair of them, each centered over the two mirrors. A site to shop for possible lights is lightingdirect. Here is a link that might be useful: two bulb down facing vanity light...See MoreArt work over mantle - help please
Comments (18)Too high, too small ; I agree with all of the above. Above the mantle is prime space/location, you shouldn't have to merchandise around the picture to make it look right. I disagree with adding more matting, possibly you should look for a print that can be framed with all of the image showing, this particular print looks like the matting is hiding some of the picture by cutting off parts of the trees, not too effective, imo. The colors do work in your room, the red is great....See MoreHelp me decide on awnings - PICTURES inside
Comments (13)Thanks for the additional opinions. You have all given me a lot to think about. Especially with regard to darkening the house. Our house gets a LOT of light. The way it faces allows the most light to get in. In fact both windows that would have awnings, are office windows. My husband and I both have our desks up against those windows looking out. To be honest, the light can be a bit much. Even with the blinds up, sometimes I have to drape a blanket over the window because its too bright. To avoid darkening the room too much, I was planning to have the awning sit above the window. This would lengthen the window. Normally they would sit inside the window frame and block the top half of the window. I also don't want the awning to have sides on it, which will hopefully let in a bit more light. They will also be retractable, so we'll have the option of just having the valance showing to avoid blocking the sunlight. Here are two pictures to show what I was thinking of. Only the awning would be much shorter, by about half, and sit higher up above the window. As far as awnings looking "grandma," I see your point. If they aren't done right, they definitely look dated. When they are done well, they can look really classic and charming. We live in a historic district and many of the shops uptown have awnings (similar to the shop in the picture above). I'm hoping ours will have a similar effect. I will do a little more thinking before putting down a deposit though....See More*Updated*Help me choose Picture over Mantle
Comments (35)Updated **We painted the wall with samples of both old navy and hale navy. Now I am leaning toward hale navy. Old navy is just too dark for my little space and looks almost black at night. Hale navy is a little grayer than I thought I would want, but I don't think I will find a better blue. I don't want anything too bright - just a sophisticated rich blue that will be easy to decorate with. What do you think? Old Navy is the darker one....See Moresquirrelheaven
