Help choosing new color scheme for outside house
Comments (7)Hi there! What colors are you typically drawn to? It would sure help to know. But since I don't know I will give you my opinion of what "I'd" do if it were mine. I cringe at what people might think about this but I would paint the brick. Please don't take offense but I don't love that color of brick. I prefer a deep robust red brick. I saw another pic and though it is not brick I love the color. I believe it is BM Revere Pewter (2nd pic below). I sure hope she doesn't mind that I copied the pic but rather sees it as a compliment because I love it! This color would look great with a black/charcol roof and some black shutters. I would even go darker on the house color. I've also always loved houses painted white with black shutters and since turquoise is "in" that could be the door color, but not the garage door, I would keep that white with this combo. I am sorry if painting the brick is out of the question, I just couldn't help myself. Comments (39)I really like that one as well Walnut. I fixed the proportions of the porch and columns and I really like the arch on the overhang to mock the other arch's. And, I really like your suggestion of a darker stair step (helps tie in the roof shade) and the light paint color. I also changed the white garage doors to match the color on the top which really ties it all in. Team work!!! I wonder if the OP is ever coming back?...See MoreNeed help with outside design of new home...

The way strong designers and architects work is to first begin with a series of small hand-drawn pencil sketches, talking with you and your spouse about the relative advantages and disadvantages of each concept sketch. Sometimes this is called by architects a "charrette", a French term for how design sketches where done and loaded on carts in Paris at the Ecole for jurying... The issue here is that the organizing concept and the development of the design as currently depicted is simply not working to your best advantage. What to do? Well the issue is whether or not the current author of the current design is capable of doing better...or whether you need to cut bait and go elsewhere. If you are working with a local architect, then simply have a discussion about needed improvements to this plan. The architect will understand and be capable of working closely with you for new concepts. On the other hand, if you are dealing with a builder, "designer" or CAD-driver (associated with the builder or working independently), then your options are more challenging, since their experience in design is most often limited at best and they only know to do what you tell them. The most important point, however, is this: it's much better, less costly, and always more satisfactory over the long haul to get things right and proper while still in the paper phase, than to proceed to construction and the related expenses thereafter for a less than satisfactory design. Get it right first. Whatever it takes. Then build it. Not vice versa! Good luck on your project....See MorePotential New Home - Outside Design HELP!
Comments (8)I would possibly opt for painting the brick as well, but if you do, be careful as to the color you pick. I would probably do some type of wash on it first, to make it look a bit more natural, (if that makes any sense). Like an old world limewash for example.... However, I would make that my last option. I would start with the garage first though, because once you get rid of that white, thou may not need to paint the brick at all. If you choose a warm color that compliments the red brick, you may end up loving it. Add in some nice landscaping, maybe a few outdoor decorative items, such as a potted plant, a bench, and some landscape lighting, and it could transform your red brick house completely simply by charming it up....See MoreAngel 18432
