Sliding door window treatment in open floor plan

Our open floor plan house came with discontinued Hunter Douglas cellular shades on every window and HD vertical cellular on kitchen sliding door. The mechanism to keep the vertical open on the slider is now broken and is sealed in the head plate so not fixable. Must I try to match color with a replacement vertical cellular or can the door be the only window with a curtain instead of blinds? Repair guy suggested adding tie backs to the vertical as a workaround but is that tacky? What options do i have, with an eye toward what is acceptable for resale in this golf club neighborhood? Thanks for any insight!

Not sure what you mean by sealed in the head plate. Why can't the head rail be removed. Maybe a close up would help.

The repair guy, who is retired and doesnt sell, said the headplate was factory sealed aluminum and he couldnt get inside. It certainly seems unfortunate

The back of the house faces southwest. For ten months of the year I like having the light streaming in the windows, but for two months of the year it would be nice to block it out! As for the WTs, I don't like the aluminum blinds enough to put them on the other windows. I'd rather go without! I had to go and look for pictures of the back of the house. Construction: Closer later: In retrospect, on my list of "things I would have changed had I known better", we would have extended the roofline to partially the cover the deck. Add decent draw sheers to the slider, and leave the rest AS IS. No need to add to the plantatio shutters, especially at the baby stage of young life. Unless you want to remove all, skip curtains entirely and do roller screen shades, or Silhouette shades. The living space and furniture ? No to curtains.

For a clean, modern look I would suggest looking into solar shades. They come in different weave thicknesses - from the very transparent to tighter weaves offering more privacy. They come in a variety of neutral colors (lots of whites) and textures. Typically, when I style a room, I do not begin with the window treatments. I design the window coverings around the room's style and floor plan. The window next to your fireplace has very little space on the left, so be careful when you do an outside mount. Also, I would mount the solar shades, or fabric roman shades (another good option) right up to the ceiling. For the sliders, do draperies - make sure to mount the drapery hardware at the same height as the top of the shades to balance everything out. Without the window treatments, my eye goes straight to the differences in height between the doors and side windows. Beautifully designed window treatments will correct that flaw and make the room look taller. Best of luck!

Do you actually need blinds on them? I've never had or wished we had blinds on our doors. Can they simply be removed?

I had the same HD vertical folding cellular shade on our patio door. It failed as your’s has, then HD didn't stand behind their warranty. We had to have custom curtains made to keep the sun from reflecting off the TV. It looked good for several years and served it's purpose. Replaced all when updated our windows.

I hadn’t thought to try to invoke a warranty but will look into it. I wonder whether any warranty even transfers to us, as we did not buy the shades.

We could get away with having nothing there but you can really feel the cold come through in the winter when you open the shades so may as well have some insulation for overnight. I think I also prefer the coziness of closing in for the evening. That said, could that be the only curtain in the house or do I have to do a cellular shade for consistency with all of the windows? The curtain would be an easier fix but I’m very concerned about doing something that is considered ”wrong” for resale.

Please yourself now with what you want, let the buyer make any changes or requests when you sell the house. It can be a negotiation that will empower the buyer possibly.
