You're correct that the slightest difference in whites sets a tone for the home. I think the undertone of your home on the exterior should match somewhat with the interior. Does your interior carry warm undertones? If so I would choose a trim that reflects that. Personally, I like the hale navy color, but I tend to favor paint schemes with more of a cool undertone.

candice olsen's favorite BM colors. we did our DD's room in Chelsea Gray with Lacy Pearl on the ceiling.. it looks fantastic. and the room does not get a lot of natural light. they have natural maple furniture and the dark color really sets it off. if u are going with light color furniture than a dark paint would make it stand out. the great thing about this color is that everything that's on the wall is "highlighted" if u will. it just makes everything look great. we were worried about it being dark as well but what a great decision it turned out to be. in the chart there are some dark colors with a blue background that should work with your art. i would do light ceiling to get some reflection and might even just use ceiling color on chair rail and below. do u want the chair rail to be accented? if not then go a one color. you can do CR a color and continue the upper wall color on the bottom section. or do a manly wallpaper on the bottom, or beadboard whatever suits your fancy and within your budget....

What color is your kitchen now? Meaning what are you used to? I have a north facing kitchen. The previous owners refaced the cabinets in a medium wood tone. The counters are uba tuba which is pretty close to black. Overall it is so dark. I don't like it, but I am coming from a white kitchen. When I remodel I am going back to white. If you like the idea of navy but aren't sure about a large amount of it, just use it on your island, or just on the lower cabinets. I personally don't like two-tone upper and lower cabinets, but it is moderately popular now.

Here are 3 ‘navy blues‘ from Benjamin Moore. Kensington Blue is approx 12 points lighter (higher Value) than Old Navy. It is also actually the most saturated of all 3. (Higher Chroma) Hale Navy is the most greyed of all 3. (Lowest Chroma), which makes it closer to a true neutral than the others. ( 0 Chroma = truly neutral.) Old Navy is the darkest of the 3 which adds richness. It is a little less saturated than Kensington Blue. (less Chroma) Like the majority of colours considered navy, they all belong to the Purple-Blue Hue Family
