We are doing a home office remodel and plan on keeping the 4' flourescent fixture that currently holds 4-40watt daylight bulbs. I have painted a dark neutral color and there is one window. The room is 12'x13'. We plan to add task lights at each of the two desk areas but what kind of bulbs can I put in the overhead flourescent for the brightest light.

Graywings, try searching on "cable management" on the Ikea site. But that search doesn't seem to pull up everything they have, unless they've discontinued some items this year. Also check out the Ikea Hackers blog. Search on "cable" and you'll pull up lots of posts where people have come up with solutions for the cables. And do go back to Apartment Therapy and search on "cable control" or "cord control." There are hundreds of entries with various DIY or purchased solutions. My own solution for computer cables is a) an iMac (just has fewer cables and also has cord control built in) and b) an old desk with drawers and a "modesty" panel, so all I have to do is drop the cords behind the desk and they are hidden and c) wireless router and printer, to eliminate a few cables. My one tip is to label all the cords with what they are for. Saves a lot of time and bother. The ThinkGeek website also has a few options for cable control.

Hi and congrats on the new house! I love the natural light in the space. What a treat for a home office. I recently finished a design of a similar industrial home office space like this with a normal sized desk with two chairs in a much smaller space -- more photos from this space in my projects but I included one here to give you an idea. I like the desk placement in the photo but the room also seems big enough to where you could turn a desk 90 degrees and put it in the middle of the room (walkways on the sides by the window). Then you could have shelving along the wall (possibly built ins). Some quick ideas would be to swap out of the light fixture that could really set the basis of the design. This setup is more pleasing to the eye upon entry and when passing through the hall. Framed corkboards keep the space stylish and a single shelving above keep it's place as a home office. The ottoman could be used from anything to files, disk storage, etc. Open windows would help the space from looking too dark.
