sinus headaches caused by weather changes
Comments (48)Hi @lazy_gardens...I have attempted to collect actual proof in the form of photos; but as involving someone else isn't really practical I've relied on selfies, which themselves can vary in lighting, the angle of my head and the distance of the camera. And I'm not tech-savvy enough to be able to do the overlays you describe on a computer screen. But I agree that this would be a way to tell for sure if there's an actual difference. More recently I've been taking measurements with digital calipers along with recording atmospheric data, but either there's too much user error (i.e., inconsistency in measuring) or the weather has not yet changed significantly enough to collect any real "evidence." My mention of sinus contraction and expansion comes from a recent paper I came across, which describes differences in the size and shape of the maxillofacial sinuses and the corresponding nasal cavities in response to atmospheric conditions (http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/ar.22655/full). However I wasn't sure if this was describing real-time changes taking place in a person's face or simply adaptive traits evolved in hot and humid vs. cold and dry environments. I have written the author for clarification but haven't yet heard back. Your point on bone movement being painful is well-taken, though; but I still wonder if the issue isn't related to the changing air pressure in the sinuses with changing humidity (humid air being less dense than dry air). I've also learned that blood pressure is lower in low-pressure atmospheric conditions, due to the relaxation of blood vessels, and wonder if this might also (or alternately) be a factor. I've started using a neti pot experimentally to see if different salt concentrations have any effect and may also try other recipes as well....See MoreSinus surgery
Comments (9)Ya I am on levaquin now for the infection. The doc sprayed stuff in there to numb everything and went to town with a scope and suckting thing, not fun, but I guess I feel better from that now. I had a really bad infection at the end of last semester, so much that then ended up doing a spinal tap to make sure it wasn't menengitus. So that is why I got this surgery. I just can't wait to be healed up and good to go again. Which should be somewhat soon. At least it has to be, I am moving back to school this sat, and classes start monday. Also I have to finish my assignment to reade and review 50 childrens books. lol I was supposed to have a lot of free time after surgery that I would be able to read. And on to that now....See MoreHi KT and I am going in for surgery next wed...long
Comments (41)I had mine like Besty and a few others. It was done long ago in 1975 and they made me stay in the hospital for 5 days. Could not understand that, I was ready to go home the next day. I had no pain at all so never took even one pain pill. I have always said the worst part of it was staying in the hospital 5 days and standing up for the first time is kind of strange. It feels like they stretched you open enough to drive a truck through! LOL You'll do fine Stacy and will not regret for one minute you had it done....See MoreDeviated Septum Surgery
Comments (13)My friend got a badly deviated septum in childhood, from a flying baseball bat hitting the side of her nose, and pushing her septum well past midline. As she aged, her septum on her left side bulged out a bit, so was visible from her profile view, and pinker than her nostril skin. She just recently had the surgery and was thrilled that her septum is not as visible now, so loved the cosmetic improvement. However she was also upset, saying it felt like 'cold air was shooting up' her left nostril, and causing headaches. I told her that if her septum looks perfectly midline, then it was a successful surgery and she had to remember that she'd had virtually no airflow up that nostril for over 40 years! I said that the sensation would likely abate even before her post surgery checkup. I wanted to let you know this, in case you get it done and also experience the 'cold air up the nose' sensation, right afterward. Just be patient, lol, as my friend said it took 2 weeks before that feeling was gone, and now she couldn't be happier!...See Morekatlan
