Sinus surgery

Well I am on my first day after haiving surgery on my sinuses, so that I can hopefully not have chronic infections anymore.

Suprisingly the pain is almost nonexistent, thanks Vicadin.

Anyway I am just going to have to lay low and play with my orchids I guess, lol. Any tips on what I can be doing this time of year that is time consuming?

Hmm...get a big ole bottle of lemon juice and wipe of the hard water spots? Repot those that need it...Remove old bracts/clean the plants up.

Nice to see you recovered. I know anything to do with sinuses isn't the most fun...

Maybe do some light reading?

Ha funny you mention light reading, I have an assignment due the second day of classes in which I still need to read another children books, and review their quality and how to use them. I know children books arn't so hard to read, but I have at least 7 more that have to be chapter books. Not hard and very enjoyable, but ya I have light reading to do.

Thanks for the lemon juice idea that will take some time and give me something to fiddle with.

Oooh! I have miserable sinus problems, so you have my total sympathy!! Recently I took my son to an ENT for his sinuses. He's a mouth breather, and is always congested, but over the last couple of years it's gotten really bad. He's had infection after infection, and is always feeling crummy. I know he has trouble sleeping, and I thought the sinus situation was making things worse. I also thought this was making it harder for him in school, since he wakes up exhausted and falls asleep in class. The ENT took some blood, and it turned out Max is extremely allergic to....trees. And grasses. Like all kinds. Olive trees, eucalyptus, oaks, elms and sycamores. All very prolific in California, and everywhere around where we live, work and play. The treatment consists of giving small amounts of the allergans in injection form over several months, allowing the body to build up the necessary antibodies and permanently eliminating the allergies. We're into the second week already. I really thought Max would have to have surgery, but it turns out the allergies were controllable. Maybe that will be what is causing all your sinus infections? By the way, when I asked the doctor about sinus treatments, I told him about the time my mom took me to an ENT for my terrible sinuses when I was about 12. He drained my sinuses. I remember how good it felt. I said I didn't remember what the treatment was called. He said "today, we call that treatment malpractice!" Oh well.

I can see where you're coming from in distrusting doctors! I tend to be the same way. If it were me, I'd wait on that lump but I'm not a dr, don't even play one on tv, so ymmv. I have a friend who has had so many surgeries in the last 5 yrs. It started with skin cancer which was over-treated. The excessive radiation burned her intestines, which led to a bowel resection & colostomy bag. Of course, every time she goes to the surgeon, they find something & just cut on her. I keep reminding her, surgeons do surgery, don't go to them for anything until your reg. dr. refers you! They're always going to recommend surgery when in doubt. But we don't have to have surgery or tons of procedures-sometimes they're done for defensive medicine which is problematic in many ways. What I've learned to do is ask my Dr., what will happen if I don't take this med/have this test/procedure? What should I watch for, and when do I call you? It surprised my Dr. the first time I asked it, now she knows where I stand. But I wouldn't nec. recommend my medical advice, I tried drinking pepto bismal & rocking all night in agony before I decided to take a shower & go to my Dr. when my appendix nearly burst. I have a high pain tolerance they said right before surgery. Had to take a shower & of course wouldn't go to ER, tho that's where Dr. sent me immediately. I feel like I have the worst sinus infection in history! I thought that once I could blow my nose it would be fine. Not yet. Hopefully soon. Thank you so much for all of the good wishes.

I hope you recover quickly, Brad. My son is going to have a similar surgery this year. A nephew had it done a couple of years ago, he did not feel his surgery helped significantly. He expected to be totally free of allergies though, I don't see how surgery could really help allergies a lot, but he sleeps and breathes easier now. Take care!

oh man, lucky you... my sinuses have raised he!! for years and years... wish I could get that done... I'm sure you're live life now like you've never lived it!!!

seriously. I'm suffering now because of the darn useless filled crevices...

ya I keep telling myself it is going to be worth it in the long run. Of course it couldn't just go by easy, I had to get one last sinus infection. So now I am cut up in there and infected, guess I'm going to the doc tomorrow, well today.

Started and anti-biotic, thank God for parents in the medical field, so I am feelilng a little better at this point of 2:15 am.

I think I've heard that swimming statement before...:)

did they get you on zithromax? good thing they got on you quick. I had sinus infections go on for weeks and it starting creeping into my brain, I think. good thing you got it taken care of quickly. very smart.

totally sucks you got an infection on top. lordy.

Ya I am on levaquin now for the infection. The doc sprayed stuff in there to numb everything and went to town with a scope and suckting thing, not fun, but I guess I feel better from that now.

I had a really bad infection at the end of last semester, so much that then ended up doing a spinal tap to make sure it wasn't menengitus. So that is why I got this surgery. I just can't wait to be healed up and good to go again. Which should be somewhat soon. At least it has to be, I am moving back to school this sat, and classes start monday. Also I have to finish my assignment to reade and review 50 childrens books. lol I was supposed to have a lot of free time after surgery that I would be able to read. And on to that now.

Anytime they scrap around and there and bust up tissue it's a guaranteed infection. At least it was for me when I had mine drained a couple of years ago--I would rather have my spincter sewn up than go though that again..

Lol spincter sewn up, I though I was the only one with wier comparisons, now is that the upper or lower spincter, you know the one going in or out? Cus that would make a difference to me anyway. But anyhow he luckly didn't do scraping this time, I was knocked out for the cutting part on monday, this was just kinda like house work a little vacuming.
