Sectional Sofas...a good idea? or don't go there?
Comments (39)Just to update, we finally ordered a sectional from Century. It is L shaped with a loveseat on one wall and a sofa length on the other. The good thing is that it is 43" deep so it should be very comfortable to lay on. We chose a chenille type fabric in a greenish tone. We started the room's decor off by picking 2 oriental rugs and pulling colors from that. The sofa comes with 7 throw pillows, so I chose 2 different fabrics for 4 of those. We'll see if it works or not when it comes in! On another note, once we started to choose decor, we realized the color on the walls was pukey and we had to get the painters back to change from blue to brown. I'm so glad we did that. It really warms up a basement room with no windows. The lighting is what made color selection so tricky. Also in there, we got a leather recliner from Hancock & Moore. And the really neat looking Wisteria Barn door coffee table. Funny thing is that when it arrived, it really did smell like a...barn door! Fortunately that smell has disapated....See MoreLiving Room Decorating Help, Sofa / Sectional advice needed! Pic
Comments (22)I am more than happy to share where this stuff came from and am extremely flattered. The rug is the "Brice" rug from Pottery Barn, 9 X 12. The sectional is made by Jonathan Louis. It is called "Knobhill" and the fabric is called Basil Flannel. I got it at a local furniture store but I saw somewhere that Jonathan Louis furniture might be available at Macy's. The website has a dealer locator: http://jonathanlouis.net/. One armchair is coming this evening. I am going to arrange it all again and post another photo. This is immensely helpful and I am just sorry that I can't try every suggestion! Have a spare small desk in the garage, and will try whatever else I can get my patient DH to do. To make things more complicated, I found out that I can order another piece for the sectional. Since I bought the floor model I didn't think of it before. It will seamlessly extend the longer side another 28". That side will def. have to go against the wall (as in the first photos), but the room will be filled out a little more. Yet another option! I think I have decided against exchanging for a sofa/loveseat. One more question: when moving the sofa away from the wall, how far should it be? Just enough to balance things, or enough for an acutal person to pass through?...See MoreHow to decorate wall over sectional
Comments (13)Yes totally agree about shelves being too high and not proportionate. I am getting rid of them and if I went with floating shelves again, I would put new ones lower (but not too low?) and maybe add a third one so they all extend further to the right. But I like the idea of wall art, too. I’m attracted to shelves because of their versatility in decorating/displaying things I love. So I need to decide either about shelves or some wall art display Thanks for your input!...See MoreHelp decorating room with grey sectional sofa
Comments (1)Find a lighter color on the paint strip and continue painting with it all the way up and ceiling. If the media stand can be painted do it is wall color but a gloss finish. Add window treatments; throw pillows; ottoman with a large tray; Pottery Barn…used these in a client’s den. If I remember correctly the blue/green of the walls is in the print, but it leans more to your sectional. Walmart Forget about throw pillows…they always will wind up on the floor....See MoreHU-132192129
