Need advice for adding shade and curb appeal to late 1970's ranch

We have been contemplating updating the exterior of our west facing home, but we are being propelled forward this summer due to the loss of our two huge Ash trees to disease. This has left us with glaring hot sun in the afternoons. Before we lost the trees, we were already considering widening our front step and maybe doing something different where the fountain currently is (probably not good to have soil and water up against the brick like it currently is)

. We just replaced the roof last summer so that probably needs to stay, but we're open to possibly painting the brick or whatever would help the front of our house to pop. We would love something like a pergola, but don't know how that would work with our roof line. We have replanted a red maple tree in the front, but it will be several years before that gives us shade. The second photo is a little dark, but hopefully the closeup helps.
