Very interesting house. I would change the top panel of the garage door to get rectangle windows. Paint it white. Paint the sidelight white, too.

First thing I'd do is replace the trees to give shade against the western sun, the hottest sun of the day.

I’d take down the window boxes, paint all the trim and garage door the darkest color in the brick. Square up the path and planting bed. For shade, you’re just going to have to either spend money on big trees or wait for the littler ones to grow.

Your house has a Swiss Chalet vibe to it. I would tone down the white trim. I'm not a color expert but I think a green on the trim and garage door would be nice.This is SW Coastal Plain. I'd beef up the window boxes and plant very showy flowers. The boxes need to be lowered so the plants will not cover the windows when they get large. I'd do some plantings in front of the house, into the yard. Where's @Dig Doug's Designs when you need him? :-)

I also replaced your front door and removed the windows in the garage door. If you can't make the top panel solid, then remove the grids completely for rectangular windows. (You can do this yourself). The arches are distracting to the rest of the lines of the house.

Here's the idea of pulling the plantings out into the yard. You'd do this in the reverse since your driveway is on the other side.

I really never realized the windows in the garage were a distraction. Thank you to the two of you that made that comment. I really do like the green on the house and the idea of layering and moving the plantings further into the yard. The window boxes are pretty showy now, unfortunately it was early spring in the picture I put on here. Great comments everyone. I appreciate them all!

If you remove the fountain and do more forward plantings, then you could put a bench there for sitting and watching your little maple tree grow.

Cute house! I would create a little courtyard garden with a white picket fence. I would build it out beginning at the bottom of the entrance porch roof peak and forward, parallel with the garage wall, and then across to a new entrance sidewalk where I would place a gate. And then continue the fence to the edge of the garage. The sidewalk could continue further down the driveway than it now does. And a post lamp could be placed in a bed beside the driveway. Inside the fence I would have a small patio surrounded by flower beds planted with perennials and annuals. I guess I am saying…play up the cottage look of your cute home. The roofline reminds me of the Cinderella Houses in California. Adorable!

PS: If possible, reconfigure your downspouts so that they run down the side walls, not the front of your home. They are distracting.

I can't believe you got a new roof the same as body. I would paint the brick and garage door with the same color.

In your case I think Celery's example looks better with the roof than the brick. The roof with the brick is fairly busy and just too much rust/orange. Celelry's example calms it down to me.

You could extend the garage roof leftward to a point about midway between the two windows on the left, adding a small forward facing gable in at the front edge of the roof directly in front of the front door. That gives you instant shade and an update on curb appeal.

With the new "entrance" to the front door even with the front exterior wall of the garage, the glass in the garage door would be less of a distraction or focal point anyway but, just to be sure, you could create a bolder feature in the gable end of the porch --

Enclose all or half the depth of the new front porch as a "sun room" entry of sorts or a more modern and dramatic entry foyer: With this one, you could add a patio door on the side of the new glass room and add a front yard patio on the side for which you could create a "green" privacy wall with a hedge beginning at the front of the sidewalk and extending all across the front of the house to the left front corner of the house. You could keep your existing front doorway but, perhaps, add a new door there, perhaps even a French door.

So many wonderful ideas. I love this. I agree the downspouts are a distraction, particularly painted white. I would definitely like to move them if possible. Yes, we chose a brick color for the roof, I actually wish I had picked a grey that looked like shakes. Shakes were on there initially, but we were having trouble getting insurance coverage on our roof and had to remove them. I'm not against painting the brick - not sure if hubby will agree on that one. Suezbell, thank you for your time in thinking this over. Fantastic ideas. ptreckel, love the idea of the cottage look. It is a storybook ranch, and though I will never add the scallops, etc.; I think there is something to be said about trying to keep the original style in the plan. I agree with painting the brick to provide more contrast with the roof. Paint your downspouts the same color as the brick (no need to relocate them) and they will practically disappear. It’s a nice looking house!

Would NOT paint the brick -- would make a nice looking house look, for lack of a better word, cheap.

Paint or swap the downspouts and angles from gutter to downspouts so they're brown to more visually disappear in front of the brick.

Remove the flower / planter boxes from beneath the windows. Attach "feet" and set them elsewhere and plant something you like in them.

With one possible exception, paint all the rest of the already existing exterior painted surfaces white, including IF you add the porch suggested above, the garage door.

Then make your new front porch and front entry be the focus of the front of the home by how you create and paint that forward facing gable and your front door and/or porch.

I love ranches! Your is lovely. Yes, widen the steps and add bed (love all the previous suggestions), but I would also add an oak that is native to your area. I would place it off center to the left in the middle if the yard between house and road. The oak will be beautiful and in ten years, it will be taller than your house. Oaks are some of the best trees you can plant-for pollinators, insects, birds, and shade.

Oh, and I would repaint all the trim and gutters to match your garage door. The white is a bit stark.
