Lighting Design Dilemma

Dining and foyer lights

Hello! i would like to replace my dining and foyer lights-they are super close to one another, so, i would like them to match/coordinate. i really like the Pottery Barn, Scarlett, but, they do not offer a coordinatiing pendant. Could someone help with a suggestion? thanks!

Just about any chandelier, semi-flush mount of flush-mount light will work there. You don't need much light in a foyer, since it is not a work or living space, so really the only factor is sizing it so it doesn't look too small or too large for the space. I'd probably go with a medium-sized chandelier for that space, one about 2 feet in diameter and hanging down about 2-3 feet; I'd also put it on a dimmer if it will be on for any significant amount of the day. But that's just me. Go with what looks good to you.

Love your house! This is great timing as we are breaking ground next week. I see your flooring is hickory, I love it. Can you give details about that? Width, grade, etc? Our flooring has been our hardest part to figure out, I love how fresh and contemporary yet warm your look is. It is hard to achieve that balance, but you have done it perfectly.

I think the wire pendant light is too similar to the chair backs to use over the table - maybe it would work in your foyer? You need three lights that will coordinate since it looks like they can all be seen at the same time. You also need to know what style you want - it looks like maybe transitional? I would try to find a fixture you like that comes in different sizes/configuration to use the smaller version over the table and larger version in your dining room. Go to a lighting store to get better options that will be sized appropriately for your spaces.

I should mention it is for a lake house. I want to stay away from the farmhouse and industrial look. Something with low maintenance (no excessive dusting) nor too busy. Thanks for any suggestions.

Instead, take them down and have recessed lighting installed. Your home would benefit from more light altogether.

personally, I would want a little more volume up top on the dining side.
