By using off white blinds -- vinyl or faux wood to withstand the moisture of the kitchen -- the same as or similar to the color as your cabinets, the blinds will all but disappear visually, enabling the emphasis to be on the light entering the room there rather than the window treatment. Adding blinds or shades of any other color tends to emphasis the small size of the average kitchen window. Adding either treated wood feet or even wheels to your planter will make it more mobile. Depending upon your planting zone, something like English Ivy in your planters could soon provide year round privacy. English Ivy is invasive so you might not want to plant it directly into the soil of your yard.

I would not do 2 panels on your windows they are narrow and the panels would cover the entire area between the windows thus covering your beautiful wainscoting. Your wallpaper and rug are heavy so go for a lighter room brightening window treatment

West facing, near the water and 90 plus temps in the summer need the big guns. I would look into pull down solar shades, hidden under a simple valance. You can still add the sheers or white curtains for aesthetics but you really need something made to block UV rays. Outside awnings or other exterior solutions might work as well.
