Why is having the walls and the trim almost match a problem? Is your trim Semi Gloss compared with matte or eggshell for the walls?

I went through about 3 gallons of the Emerald Urethane paint last summer and have been super happy with how it has held up on our trim and cabinets! I did mine in Alabaster, but do think you will be happy with the paint quality if you do the right prep work for your trim.

Thank you. Question - my painter said she applies the trim paint untinted for the brightest white. Does anyone have experience with this?

To Beverly - I wanted my trim to be super white and stand out - like a new build. I think the problem I had is that the painter used eggshell on the walls (not satin) and frankly I'm not sure what on the trim and the entire house is getting redone (by a different painter). I'm just sick about it but trying to move on!

Eggshell is fine for the walls. On trim, you can use either satin or semi gloss.

Remodeled my kitchen, and converted stained cabinets to painted cabinets. The paint contractor suggested/encouraged using SW Emerald water-based Urethane over SW oil based product. The cabinets were prepared appropriately and the paint was applied beautifully. But I HATE this paint and would not recommend it. It shows marks (eg if the button on my shirt rubs up against cabinet as I'm washing dishes in the sink, it leaves a black mark). Yes - you can get the marks off with a Magic Eraser, but who wants to do that? For the amount of money it cost to prepare and paint my cabinets, I do not want daily maintenance. I had the same contractor use the oil-based paint on my laundry room cabinets - no problems whatsoever. Yes - it takes longer to dry and there is a strong odor for a day or two. But the "wearability" is so much better. My decorator said the painters like to use the water-based because it dries much faster. This same story applies to my refinished wood floors. They talked me into a water-based sealer. AWFUL. The dog scratched it all up just walking on it within days. I had them come back, take off the water based sealer and add three coats of the oil based polyurethane. It's been 3 months - NOT ONE SCRATCH.

@sbv1962 thanks for sharing this - I am now a bit worried about this. I'll call SW tomorrow to discuss! thanks for the tip. Given this will be on my trim and doors, I don't want to have scratches or marks.

@trendtown: I couldn't find any negative reviews about the Emerald line of paint, but my contractor and decorator both agreed with my assessment. I would get SW to give you a sample on a material similar to what you would be using it on in your house. Test with your fingernails, a belt buckle, and other items that would come in contact with the surface in your home.

I tried it on interior doors - it is SUPER shiny! Almost gloss instead of semi gloss. I can’t recommend it.
