Anyone use thin porcelain large-format slabs on walls?
Comments (153)Everyone is asking for a porcelain slab fabricator close to where they live. What I did was search on Houzz to find local contractors with porcelain slab installations. Then viewing work that they did a few years ago for any cracking particularly around the sink faucets. I did not have good experiences asking the material vendor for contractors for other projects I have done....See MoreAny 6 x12" Porcelain Tiles w/ Carrara Marble LOOK out there?
Comments (4)I search through an international site that lists many/most of the Italian and Spanish tile suppliers. 6x12 isn't a popular size. Here are some marble-look porcelain tiles that come in sizes that would work for herringbone, one also had a chevron cut. Scroll down each page for the size offered. This brand is sold in the US, but you would need to find who carries it locally. http://www.vallelungacer.it/collezioni/statuario/?lang=en http://www.vallelungacer.it/collezioni/dolomiti/?lang=en http://www.vallelungacer.it/collezioni/carrara/?lang=en...See MoreLook of large slab porcelain that's less expensive?
Comments (36)@joseph_corlett. I spent the afternoon at a large volume fabricator warehouse, looking at their remnants. Although they had lots of remnants, I don't think I found what I was looking for. I am looking for a soft, almost-white, solid colored quartz. Looked at some online and think that the Hanstone Royale Blanc might be the right shade of off-white. Do you know of any other brands that might have the off-white solid quartz? I thought maybe if I could find a fabricator that sold a lot of the brand of quartz, I could find a remnant piece in the color I want. Comments (12)Oooffaaa. I'm a Certified Tile Installer & Forensic Tile Inspector. Yes, you are correct....95% mortar coverage is required in wet spaces & especially for slab installations. It's not a recommendation but a requirement. ANSI A108.19 & .20. If you were able to extensively extend an item behind those voids behind the slab then those slabs are spot bonded. Not 🚫 an acceptable form of installation for neither 6mm or 12mm slabs. If you notice grout joints missing or slab having movement then I'd be concerned at that moment. I 1 time had to perform an inspection with same issue, homeowner lost balance while cleaning legs & shoulder went into the wall & cracked slab. The shower didn't last 6 months bc it was due to inexperienced installers...See MoreKim
