How how to hang slider curtains

Have a small sunroom with a sliding glass door and 3 side by side windows. Have invested in roman shades for the windows throughout ($$$) and want an affordable option for the slider. It receives hot sun in the afternoon and I want to protect the dark hardwood floors. I am considering grommet style curtains but how high do I hang them? The top of the slider is 84" yet

the top of the windows 96.' Do I hang the curtains 84", 96" or 108" which is nearly ceiling level. Thanks so much for your perspectives!

IMO you need solar shdaes on those windows so you can keep the view and control the UV and heat. I use slider panels on patio doors and roller ones on regular windows . I agree that drapery is best all hung at the same level.It does not appear that there is an issue with privacy so why block the view.

As for height, I would go minimally mid way up from the slider to the ceiling to hang the rod. You want a type of curtain that easy to slide and grommet style can be not as easy to slide as say rings IMO. Something else to consider...When looking at your slider, the handle is on the left and the width of the wall to the left where the curtain will hang is very narrow and my concern is that if you hang a curtain on that side you will be constantly needing to put your hand behind the curtain to get to the handle. Thinking if you just hang curtains on the right side only could help solve that issue.

Sorry, just remembered the windows to the right... hang at 96in to match the windows on the right.

Thanks again to everyone for their nice comments and helpful advice, I really learned a lot from this post. Also I have to give credit to Lindac, who would win the prize if there was one! The pleats looked good after training them, but quickly started to fall out. Since I am obviously obsessed with getting these curtains to look just right (ha ha!) I took them to a seamstress who agreed with Lindac that there was way too much material between the pleats. For a small fee she redid the pleats, and NOW they really look just right!

Oh, boy. Get ready for the pearl clutching and parenting lectures — basically you’ll be told that you should have a stadium light shining in your baby’s face all day and night, as well as hit an air horn every hour … otherwise, your baby will grow up to never know how to sleep and well, let’s face it, will become a serial killer because you darkened their room. Welcome to Houzz! Anyway, I’d probably use outside mount Roman shades. Not sure you can have long curtains with the heaters? (I’ve never had wall units like that so don’t know.) Or curtains that stop at the sill … another rule breaker here, but can be very charming and functional in certain situations. I’d use with return rods. I think a ceiling mount rod would look odd on just that one window. You can easily have it on the frame or on the wall (French return or no finials). Or window treatments on the other windows and leave this one with just blinds.

You know that you can buy black out cellular shades, right? Any curtain that you use should be on a track so that you can open them. Curtains just on a rod do not really open. At least, they dont open and close easily enough to be really functional. The function is very limted unless you use the proper track systen and mount them so that they can stack on the wall, not the window. By the time that you incur the expense of curtains and the right rods and the install and all of that, you just might be better served with some cellulars with blackout function. None of any of it comes cheap. It all has a price to it.

You all give me good points to ponder so thank you very much. If I decide on grommet curtains it occurs to me Theresa that I probably will need a stabilizing bracket mid way (since the sliding door is wide). Would this interfere somewhat with sliding the curtains from left to right? Hmmm....

Yes it will. I was looking even closer on the right side and there isn't a lot of room to pull back curtains to clear the end of the slider so it seems like your curtains even pulled back could cover up some of the right side of the slider. I have a long slider and I ended up putting in a fabric flat roman shade and mounted on the inside of the trim. Could do outside if not enough room on the inside. I'm not a fan of vertical shades, but thats just me.

So the flat roman shade opens from left to right (in my circumstance) and not bottom to top? Do you recall approximately what this cost you, Theresa? I have flat roman shades on the adjacent windows.

Depends on size and type of fabric you use, don't remember cost. My flat roman mechanism to open and close is on the right, you will need to take measurements. Many websites allow you to pick everything and then it shows cost. Look for sales.
