Moving gradually past peak

Peak is usually about the 11th here, but we have been churning around in quantity. Colors have generally been luscious with the ground moisture, though there are exception in plants affected by spring weather. Some appear to be in decline. We will see what is on my desktop.

Warmer Climes. The picture exaggerates a bit the color contrast. I don't like that it has the upfacing habit of parent Clarity of Vision, but it is colorful.

Redheaded Hussy

Aaron Brown --some scapes short. Aaron Brown has always been inconsistent here, but is a looker.

Purple Lives Matter. Pleased with first blooms. Out of White Eyes.

Native Reflection --can stand some shade.

Lana Ishee --what a screamer she has been this year. So vivid, as are many of the hot colors. Came from Chris years ago, who was gifted with it.

A Heart Apart--taller than expected

Eyes Right Jones --slow grower that looks somewhat like Edge of Your Seat

Change of Heart --always makes a statement in the landscape

Heartbeat of Heaven--very good this year. Some years quite splotchy

Nothing here I don't like. I have always liked Aaron Brown, not sure why I don't have it. Purple Lives Matter is on my wish list, glad to see it here. Heartbeat of Heaven was good here too, the last couple of years it had a different color, sort of murky that I did not like. I like Birthday Wishes, and Painted Desert is very different and eye catching.

Welcome Mark! Welcome to garden web. From what you have said it seems you really care for your plants. That being said Norfolks do not always show their love for their owners as fast as we would like. You are in zone 3a I see so your plant will grow very very slowly. What you are doing so far is great except for moving it! Once you pick an ideal location (free from drafts, good lighting, etc) NEVER move the plant as that is the fastest way of killing it. NIPs (Norfolk Island Pine) grow slow and you will not see any improvement for weeks, months, maybe even a year. Pick one location and stick with it. If it's a warm bright spot, stay on top of watering. If it's a cool bright spot, you can let the soil dry a bit. I had a beautiful one I bought after Christmas December 2010. I put it outside every summer under the shade of large maple trees and a cedar hedge. In 2012 it was getting late in the season and in late September I didn't want to bring it inside yet and stuck it in my Dad's greenhouse for the night. The next day was unseasonably warm and sunny and I was at work and didn't get to it in time and by 4 o'clock the damage had been done at one side turned brown. It's still recovering from that to this day but slowly is getting better. Tip: they like to be showered with COLD water. I put mine in the bath tube once a week and turn the water all the way to cold and use the shower head and spray it.

Jim, that was a very wise statement that Roxanna made. Carla, my original Gruss an Aachen is beautiful in the late fall, like right now. But the rest of the year, the color is not my favorite either. I think its the late spring, summer, and early fall intense heat here that is hard on original Gruss' color. On the other hand, the color on my four Pink Gruss an Aachen's captures my imagination all year long. Right now, my Pink Grusses are wowing me, they look so perfectly "old rose" to me. I know Gruss is often classed as the first floribunda, but in no way does it make me think of a floribunda, especially the pink form. This is a very early introduction hybrid tea by breeding. And by being such an early introduction (Gruss was introduced in 1909), I think it retains much of its old rose lineage character. I know, I know, I get slobbery over this old rose, which is why I'm so disappointed no Texas supplier seems to carry it any more :-) Randy

Your garden is always so lovely no matter when you take pictures of your beds. I love these kinds of pictures were I can see the entire garden, at least in sections. And it really does look perfect. You have done a stunning job. I just can't believe how much bloom and color you have. Plus you mix some perrenials into your daylily beds so well. I have tried that and it had never worked for me. Actually thats one of the reasons I do so many daylily/lily combos because at least that does work for me. Again, your garden is stunning, always enjoy looking at your pictures.

I agree that Natalie Antoinette seems very pale. Don't know if that will continue, but at least the blooms were not splotchy. Bud count is low here, though. The hospital bed is a local urgent care garden that I tend, partly volunteer, and for which I donate many plants. You can't grow anything too striking or people will steal it. It's as bad as New York City, where people have to grow things in cages. The color on Frank Teele I found alluring when I first saw it, and I have kept it for that reason. Wow, such a lovely clump of Sweet Isabella, I’m hoping mine looks that good at some point. I’m intrigued by Purple Lives Matter, hoping to see more photos of this one. i like the color combination on Painted Desert.

What nice clumps!! Bob Marley and Lana Ishee both appear to be screamers! Sweet Isabela looks wonderful. I agree with Sherry-the color on Painted Desert is striking. I have Blushing Escapade (you know I do like pinks!!) but I think mine looks darker. I will check but it is a wonderful plant. I am glad you finally have a season with good moisture for a change.

Warmer Climes looks great, and I love upfacing blooms. There are so few of them. Blushing Escapade is beautiful. What do you mean no one likes pinks anymore? Pinks are still my very favorites. A Heart Apart and Sweet Isabela are a shade of pink I particularly like. That clump of Bob Marley cannot be overlooked. The rest are all striking in their own ways.

I've tried to get A Heart Apart for a couple of years now. Couldn't find it from a rust free source. Do the scapes need staking?.........I like those screamers, so Lana Ishee always calls my name.....I still like pink, so Blushing Escape is very pretty to me. Trouble is that there are so many paler pinks out there that I need to limit myself. How many pale pinks can one have in a small collection?..............Maryl

Beautiful group, I like them all, esp Sweet Isabela and all the red with watermarks - Aaron Brown, Change of Heart and Bright Haven. My Heartbeat of Heaven has a few splotchy blooms, mostly clean, but it is dark like yours this year!

A Heart Apart is growing in a pot, but I wouldn't know why it would need staking. Don't think J. Davisson would introduce anything like that. It is less popular than her UFs.

An exceptional bunch, Mantis! My fav of these is Purple Lives Matter, Also outstanding, A Heart Apart, Lana Ishee, Sweet Isabella, and A Change of Heaert.
