Drapery Rods...Please help!
Comments (5)Speak to your drapery maker about your concerns regarding the rings. As you probably know, a drapery pin is inserted behind the pleat and the pin hangs onto the ring. If the pin is "lowered", the drapery pleat will hang higher and less will show. On the other subject, telescoping rods don't really bother me. Who is really looking that closely at your rods? Just remember to purchase a wide enough rod so the rod doesn't sag in the middle. I personally prefer a thinner ring-- I think they are a bit more delicate and more formal. Hope this helps....See MorePlease vote on choice of valance for kit+family
Comments (14)redbazel: Actually the location makes for better TV viewing since there is no glare as can happen when the TV is on the wall opposite. If you look close there are something like 8 separate wire connections--DH said we could move the TV, but hte components would have to stay on that wall--which the only way I'd move the TV is if we could put the sofa on that wall. One nice thing about it the way it is, is we have a view of the backyard from the sofa. The valances will definitely be fuller as most likely I'll put 2 per window whereas when I taped them up, I only taped up a single one--so it's really more to see how the colors look than anything else. Yes, I do sew and have made valances before. In fact, I just made one for my DD's room and making them myself would be another option if I cannot find something off the shelf. I actually prefer the stripe myself. I would have to visualize how option 3 would look a little better in terms of the style of rod and how much I could clear from the window since it obstructs the light. It's hard to tell from my pics, but I already have 2" wood blinds on the windows and there is a view out my backyard. SO my vote would be either 2 or 3 and tonight I'll find out what DH thinks, though he also thought the sage plaid was a bit on the plain side and wanted something like the pillow pattern. sky: I don't think I could do as you desrcibe with the new console on the way since it will go against the wall and will extend under the windows for about 6" per side. That was why I was considering pulling them to the outer sides. I could still put 2 panels per side and just pull to the outer sides and that way they'd be fuller....See More3 swatches- Please help me pick drape fabric for dining area.
Comments (27)I am trying to convince my DH to try the drysink in the corner, but he is sure it is to large for the area. I even printed the photos shown and cut the drysink section and placed it behind the table (which would need to be turned) and it did not look right. The board can be taken out of the table since it is only the two of us, to give even more space. I will keep working on it. He is very tired of the small redo. We have been waiting for a wall unit to house the microwave, which will include a pantry and broom closet since before Christmas. He has painted the walls and baseboard twice, and he doesn't like to paint, but he does a great job. When I get home from work I will show you a valance I now have above the sink. It is a cutwork white that I really like. Does the kitchen window/sink area, and the dining are drapes/curtains need to be the same fabric? Thank you all. jejvtr - for the websites. I will check them out tonight. I am at work and just did a quick check on the HD Forum. We originally had it caddycornered in its current position, but neither of us liked it, but I liked it about as much as I like it now. sheilaaus - I agree that the greens/blues are a little off after living with them longer. I really like the first fabric, too - the cream, orange, rust etc. andee - if I can move the drysink, the wall now behind it would be a great place for the 'twins'. Otherwise I am out of wall space. Jane PS: One piece of advice I would seriously consider giving is to find drapes/curtains you fall in love with and then find the paint for the walls. Paint can be easily changed, but finding the right fabric/drapes has become a nightmare to match the color we chose....See MoreNeed help to re-do drapery and valance
Comments (27)I have lots of contact info but only for Canadian workrooms. Shadylady- aren't you a pro? I seem to recognize you from.the pro forum- or I could be wrong- but if I'm right, perhaps you can help Phyllida find a pro in her area? As a guideline, workrooms charge by the width of fabric. That is for each column of fabric from top to hem. So if you have two joined together, the charge if for two widths of material, two and a half is counted as three, etc. The reason the 1/2 is charged as a whole is because it takes just as much time to seam a 1/2 piece as it does a whole. Or, your cleaner might know a workroom?...See MoreKim
