I expected pictures of the squirrel.

Rusty

LOL Rusty, if I see him I'll post it.

Squirrels can be really a-gnaw-ing!

Squirrels are destructive little buggers!! Ask anyone who has had them take up residence in their attic.

And I doubt they care much about potential carcinogens.....just saying :-))

Black squirrels were native here until the grey ones became dominant. I prefer the black ones. Right now we have an overabundance of *rabbits*. Calling all coyotes! These varmints are eating all my flowers.

We have a squirrel that chewed the frame around our garage door enough that he could enter the garage. He then chewed through the lid of a 5 gallon paint bucket to get to the sunflower seeds that I had stored in the bucket. They can be very destructive. I call him the demon squirrel.

We had a white squirrel hanging around. I’d never seen one before, google says they’re pretty rare.

Foodonastump, we have one in our neighborhood. Very exciting to see it.

Red pepper flakes on the rug. He needs to move on.

Many years ago we came home from a trip to find almost every plastic thing chewed. It was suggested that moisture was condensing on it and they chewed to get the moisture even in the cracks. If you area has been lacking water you might put out some pans of it for them.

What, a teething squirrel? I'm not sure I'd want him chewing the furniture ;0) I think I'd try something like Critter Ridder animal repellent spray on the chairs as well as offering water. I've used the granules in the garden and they're pretty effective. Havahart, the pet friendly people ;0)......

I had never in my life seen a squirrel in this community, even with them so plentiful every place else not that far away. Chipmunks yes, squirrels no. About 3-4 years ago I could hear something calling outside my bathroom window and went out to investigate. A red douglas squirrel in my cherry tree, really not terribly afraid of me, it came down the tree to chatter at me, not up higher and farther away. I've seen it a few times since and assume there must be at least a small population of them. But only one at a time in my yard and not frequently. It takes advantage of the dogwood fruit in late summer, harvests maple seeds from several we have.

After 34 years with no problems we have had all our drip hose and hard drippers chewed to pieces by squirrels. We now have to water everything with a watering can on 2.5 acres. They have also shoved acorns under the shake shingles and busted a lot of them so we will have to replace them. They are not cute in my book. I wish the hawks, owls, bobcats, mt lions and coyotes would do their job. We are being over run with them.

I had tons of squirrels until the fox moved in.

We have black squirrels here....and white deer.

I have a ton of grey squirrels and occasionally white ones.

The woman who used to live behind us had three 'bird' feeders in her yard. Not many birds, but lots and lots of squirrels.

Over the past year, I baited a trap/cage with crunchy peanut butter and have gotten 34 of the them. I cover the cage with a heavy blanket, put it in the trunk of the car and release them about a mile away in several spots. I'm down to one squirrel who likes to digs holes in the yard and garden. I'll get that bugger some day.

Several years ago my ex-DH and I found 2 newborn squirrels in our yard. I raised them until they were old enough to be on their own. We drove them to a forest and released them.

I put a bunch of nuts and veggies at the base of a tree and set the squirrels out. They raced up the tree then scampered down, up my legs and nuzzled my ear then took off I bawled like a baby. LOL.

@jim_1 (Zone 5B),

regarding relocating squirrels, https://www.humanesociety.org/resources/scrap-trap-when-evicting-wildlife

"A 2004 study of grey squirrels who were live-trapped and relocated from suburban areas to a large forest showed that a staggering 97 percent of the squirrels either soon died or disappeared from their release area."

We have regular gray squirrels, but not so many as to be a problem. Having two dogs who love to chase them up trees and then bark bark bark probably helps.

I have never understood the rational of trapping and removing animals. Some types are territorial once removed another of the same kind or sometimes even worst types will take over the territory. When food is plentiful others will be allowed to stay but when food becomes scarce the battles begin as to who is allowed access.

I don't comprehend the bother of relocating them either. A shot gun is what you need.

"If you can’t wait for the animals to leave on their own, the next best strategy is humane eviction—gently harassing the animals so they’ll move to an alternative location. Wild animals have a sophisticated knowledge of their home ranges (the area in which they spend almost their entire life). Alternative places of refuge are part of that knowledge or cognitive map. Litters can, and will, be moved if disturbed.

Try using a combination of unpleasant smells and sounds. The size of the denning space and the amount of ventilation will largely influence if such repellents will work. We recommend using rags soaked in a strong smelling substance such as cider vinegar (not ammonia), lights and a blaring radio during nighttime hours to convert an attractive space (quiet, dark and protected) into one that is inhospitable."
