July in my hosta garden
Comments (25)If I could decide on a favorite time of all of the above-ground growing seasons of hostas, it would be when the fragrant hostas bloom. Today, fragrant hostas, 1 hour before sunset. The aroma was wonderful. Before you think, "I wish I were there," I will warn you that the temperature was about 94 degrees. Stained Glass in foreground with Guacamole close behind. Stained Glass. What a generous plant! Clockwise starting from azalea at left bottom corner: Spartacus (not fragrant), Guacamole looking bright in the sunlight, Stained Glass looking muted in the shadow, Last Dance, Fluted Fountain (little), Last Dance (for symmetry), Fragrant Bouquet, Royal Standard, Blue Perfection and small potted Coast to Coast (awaiting placement elsewhere). There are a few others detailed with next picture. Another view, looking over Sugar Plum and Spartacus to the stumps, with Guacamole and Stained Glass on the left. At the stumps in pots from left to right: Secret Love, Electrocution, and Deja Blu....See MoreMarch 2021 in my hosta garden
Comments (93)Please don’t hate me. There is frost in the forecast in 3 days, so these babies will keep me busy. White Feather. Ugly little plant, but interesting curio. It was a gift. The hosta my mother gave me. You know, the one with the white center? Undulata undulata mediovariegata. Actually, quite a sturdy, generous plant....See MoreApril 2021 in my hosta garden
Comments (117)utog..another silhouette pic!..this one's great too!.. your garden's looking good!..we had 2 inches of rain Wed night..I had standing water (common in our high water table neighborhood) in my usual spots..so I didn't walk around in back today.. my still unclipped ratty winter foliage on an Autumn fern..they're slow for me.. the Japanese Painted ferns look fresher than the Autumns beside them..maybe because the Japanese Painted ferns die back?.. n2hostas..my green ginger is a good spreader..plant it with some space..but my craziest groundcover is this Lamium galeobdolon..can you see the variegated plant behind this bleeding heart?..that's it.. miles..there was a post a long time ago where someone used a wide shallow container for mini's and had success.. when I clean, weed and top with compost these plants will look prettier.....See MoreMay 2021 in my hosta garden
Comments (82)Yes! I love tarsiers and lorises! Here is an Eastern screen owl. How I wish I had one of these in my yard. They are voracious vole hunters. https://abcbirds.org/bird/eastern-screech-owl/ They have the cutest trill. They shiver while they trill. They are little owls. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ADtk37HFmq4...See Moreundertheoaksgardener7b
