Comments (45)Rodja, I did not like Blue Paradise because of its floppiness here(I live near the North Sea- very windy) I'm kind of "allergic" to floppiness. Phlox Blaue Morgen has an identical colour but stands up much better(although not perfect to begin with). The best standing of the "blue" ones is Boguslaw's Blaue(from Germany). This one is storm-proof. The general rule here in Europe is , that English varieties of phloxes have bigger flowers, but German ones are more practical (healthier and less flopping). Comments (13)Wow, this board is really buzzing! So many comments in such a short time period from such helpful gardeners! Thanks, all, for responding and for the warm welcome. I'm in NJ. I actually have that in my profile, and I'm unsure as to why it's not showing up on my posts. (I don't see preferences to show/hide it.) jadie88, I was searching for variegated Solomon's Seal last summer but had no luck finding it. And this year I decided I want to try red astilbe with some lighter-colored hostas to brighten up some areas between bushes. I don't have a lot of money to spend because I'm starting my raised-bed vegetable garden this year. But I do still need to add to my gardens out front. I planted them last spring after buying my house in the fall. The front does get sun, but it's rather uneven; the right side gets more than the left due to the sizes of the trees in front. I didn't realize how much of a difference there was until I saw how the plants/flowers were growing. The impatients on the right side seemed to triple in size, while the left side did not get much larger at all! So now I must forget about having a symmetrical look out front and get to replanting. ken_adrian, I'm not sure what I was thinking! Of course, more hostas! I can't wait to read through this forum to get more ideas and become more educated on hostas! Comments (9)Thanks everyone! I think I like it a lot? It's different and "unique" it adds its own something special to my hosta garden for sure! I wasn't sure I would like it so I debated on it for a few minutes but $5 was too good a deal to pass up just because of some barely noticeable frost damage! I relocated it into Luna Moth's old pot. It's bigger. I ordered Cherry Berry today, so I'll need the smaller one I had it in for her. The pot it's in now should (hopefully) last a couple of years? I have a sitting area of my garden which I've planted with fragrant hostas of the Fragrant Bouquet lineage. They bloom together. The experience is lovely enough to draw me out of the air-conditioning on these hot summer days.
Fragrant Bouquet gets prettier every year.
Stained Glass is about to bloom.
Frosty Morn keeps it blooms low.
Worldly Treasure is now dark green.

Hardy hibiscus Super Rose, bought last autumn from Hallson's on their final season.
I am sitting on the stumps next to 5 fragrant hostas while Spartacus stands guard.
Dark Star in foreground, with Paul's Glory and ostrich fern in/near the sunlight.
Pineapple Upside Down Cake grown in baking hot part-sun. It is the size of Curly Fries under the stressful conditions.

Queen Josephine thrives and blooms in spite of her nearly full sun location.
Blue Tooth is sending up its first blooms. Grown in part-shade to retain color.
Great Expectations, grown at the base of a maple tree and thriving against all odds. Somehow, it manages to be gorgeous despite hail damage, heat waves, and drought. This hosta seems like my 2020 mascot.

Inniswood, bought on a lark from Hallson's 2 years ago. I am really starting to like this one.
Passiflora caerulea with several bees, as well a Thomcord grape vine.
Waterslide. So far, of the Neptune, Restless Sea, and Cutting Edge collection, this is the best one. I They are all good. I think it will be smaller than its cousins.

Sorry, Hosta Peeps, but I cannot get enough of this Pineapple Upside Down Cake in bloom. It is so darn cute.
Stained Glass is in bloom. I grow SG next to Guacamole, Secret Love, Fragrant Bouquet, Royal Standard and Blue Perfection. It is heavenly there at this time of year.
