Mother of pearl tile backsplash
Comments (55)I am shopping for short finger tile to use as an accent strip in my small bathroom..it will run around the walls at chair rail height and around the tub, back the niche then back out..the tiles are glass, marble and MOP on some kind of ceramic base. I was told by different sales people there was no need to seal...but others say the marble should be sealed...I am concerned that using it in the tub/shower..and using a squeegie on the wall where it will run over the MOP numerous times will loosen the shell from the base tile...also hard water spots might be a problem and I am concerned to use any acid based cleaner on it...should I look for a tile without marble or shells in it? I don't want to have to maintain the accent tile...See MoreHow is your mother of pearl tile backsplash holding up?
Comments (12)Mine has been installed a whopping 2 weeks- but I'm intrigued- what is this cooking you speak of? I seem to have given that up since the remodel... honestly it would have been smarter to totally remove the kitchen, install an ice maker and beverage fridge and expand the living space. Take out is cheaper! Anyway- so far, so good. DH actually cooked chili. Yep- splashing tomato sauce. And I've got a slide in induction, so there's nothing between the stove and the tile. No issue. The tile I used was the super tiny stagged brick pattern- each tile is about 1/2"x 3/4" and MAYBE 1mm thick. We did have a pro install it. The walls have to be perfectly flat. Our installer spent half the 1st day smoothing the smooth coat that was installed. Even so, there are some spots I can see that are a tiny bit off. I can live with it- plus no one else looks as close as I do. I did have them use urethane grout. We plan to seal the tile- but the sealer says it can remove new grout, so we'll wait a month or 2. We should have done it before it was installed (lesson learned). Do I love it as much as I thought I would- 1000 times yes. It sparkles all the time- now I just need the UC lights finished (hubby is taking his time...)- but the one area done looks great with the tile....See MoreFinally saw backsplash I love, can't find pic in gallery; help?
Comments (8)I found it, I found it, I found it! Searched "granite, anyone?" on google, and there it was. I can't figure out how to get the pic from there to here, though. We have a freestanding range so there's no way to put something fancy behind the range, and this suits me perfectly. If anyone wants to see it, it's in a pic in the Home Galleries called Red Granite, anyone? The granite is Red Dragon. It's posted by krislrob. Thanks, all, for your help....See MoreCould one of these finally be our backsplash tile?
Comments (16)I know it is SO frustrating picking a backsplash. It's why I've been w/o one for over 2 years! Were you the one who was originally drawn to the beveled subways? Anyways, of what you've posted here, I like this one best because it looks nice with your counters, cabs, and your floors. On my iPad anyways. It doesn't compete with the counters, it doesn't blend in too much with the cabs, yet compliments with the cup pulls, and it does not look like a floor tile. It comes the 6" size you love in your inspiration and you can do the diamond pattern you love. I know you are probably gonna not even look at any more responses. I imagine you are to the point of screaming at the computer screen, "Noooooo, leave me aloooooone!" But I really do not think the two tiles in the original post that have what looks like wavy raised ridges or texture on the surface is right for a backsplash. It definately says floor tile to me. Both are also too close in color tone to the cabinets and counters. It need to contrast at least a little somewhere. I know you hate it too white looking, but those two tiles are just a hint off from the cabs, either darker or lighter. Ugh, I'm sorry! ......:-(((( I really like the simple one I reposted above out of all the choices. Hope this helps and you will return with whatever you decide. Please take a few days off from thinking about it before making a final decision. I finally love my choice, but trust me it was a hair pulling ordeal. I get it....See Moremxk3 z5b_MI
