I'm fussy about pillows too. A few years ago I bought this one from IKEA. It's very comfortable.

It has an unusual shape. We were watching a sci-fi show the other day and the protagonist was in his starship bunk, resting his head on a pillow of this very shape. Good to know IKEA is still going strong 500 years from now, lol.

Pillows are such a very personal choice, both in terms of texture and for the position you sleep in. My choice is actually to use a 6" or 7" bolster pillow -- I buy the inserts, and slip them into my usual pillow case. I change them out every 8-12 months or so, depending on how quickly the lose their oomph. (I buy mine from HomeTex.ca and they're less than $8 each.)

I also have some Ikea pillows on my bed that I use to prop myself up when I want to, but I don't actually use them for sleeping. I discovered I liked bolster pillows when I was trying out mattresses in the store (in the before-times), and I grabbed one of their display bolsters to use.....and voila! I loved it.

I am using a My Pillow--it's ok.

I like the inexpensive Allerease synthetic pillows that come in a pair from Costco. They can be laundered, but I find that they need to be replaced after one or two washes. I have a few down/feather mix pillows that I sometimes try, but I always go back to the Allerease.

I love this pillow! I only wish they made it the width of a standard pillow. It is three layers of foam. the top layer has the curves and dips and the other two layers are flat. I can add or remove layers to fit my preference. I want to get another, but it is no longer available (even at the company’s website).

I recently found this one, similar to the one Nickle posted: Pillow 2 It is also a toddler pillow. Not adjustable, though. The adult versions I’ve tried of this type have too much height or are too firm for me. This works for me.

I wasted a lot of money on pillows, trying to find one that worked for my-post injury neck (needing to keep proper alignment through the night). I tried Sealy, and some other big name brands.

The best that I found was an Ikea memory foam similar to nickel_kg's (now discontinued; it was much firmer than typical for memory foam and just the right depth - but the support wouldn't last all night, it would slowly sink) and one from Amazon (Core Products tri-core cervical support; it was comfortable but the mid size was not deep enough for proper alignment).

I finally gave up and now sleep on a couple of folded towels, in a zippered pillow cover, inside the pillowcase.

I'm a fan of the Tony Little Micropedic pillows. They simulate buckwheat pillows. Some people hate them because they think they are too hard, but they work very well for me and relieve my neck pain. I've tried a bunch of pillows over the years, especially as new shapes are invented, but nothing has worked as well for my needs as the TL pillows.

It's almost impossible to recommend a pillow, as @Toronto Veterinarian said, because every person sleeps in a different position with different body measurements. As for sleeping hot, I find using 100% cotton pillowcases is helpful.

My down pillows from Macy's are just perfect for my needs. I'm a side sleeper and synthetics make my ears ache!

They're often are on sale too. I've bought 3 so far - 2 for me and 1 for my mom. I think I paid about $45-$50 for mine...

We like shredded memory foam pillows. The last few sets I bought off of Amazon. I am finicky about pillows. Too fluffy or too thin and I get horrible neck cricks. Last time the neck pain evolved into shoulder pain which evolved into very painful, random spasms that brought me nearly to tears. So I need good pillows. Shredded memory foam.

I sleep on down & feather & down. Pillow has to be scrunchable.

If I could ask cl_lantro which brand pillow to you like? I also love a scrunchable pillow, and have a Pacific Coast that I have had for awhile. I have looked at current ones but not sure what to get. TIA

HU-1746.... I have no idea what brand they are. Rummage sale finds, mostly. (Yes, I clean them before using!) But I have found them at rummage brand new & still in the plastic wrapper.

Also, note the pillows are made with microfiber. An environmentally dangerous material that isn't recommended because of the pollution it causes. You should read up on it if you haven't heard about the problems it causes.

Yes, I think that was her point ;) i.e. there are good alternatives to down pillows.

I absolutely detested the My Pillow I suffered with for far too long. I finally bought a wool stuffed pillow from Life Kind and am very, very happy with it.

I've never encountered an acceptable alternative to a down pillow. What alternative do you suggest a down pillow user would be satisfied with having?

FWIW, the pillows I linked to @ Macy's are very soft and scrunchable, and spring right back too. That's why they work so well for me. I've had them for a couple of years now and they've held their shape perfectly.

I've had a buckwheat pillow for over 20 years. The buckwheat hulls stay in place so when you've made a comfortable spot for your head and/or have just the right neck support "molded", the hulls don't fall into the gap (unlike beads). It sounds like a really weird pillow but a cousin raved about hers and I bought one to humor her. The joke was on me...it's absolutely my very favorite pillow.

The BB&B link below is the pillow I have. It's small in size (about 15" x 19") compared to a standard 20" x 26" pillow and weighs slightly less than 4 lbs. There are larger sizes available but I find this one very adequate. I use a standard size pillow case and tuck the excess inside making an "envelope".
