What do you do when there are too many squash plants in a small area?

Me and my family had always planted our vegies and fruits, but in the past couple of years we had not been doing that. So when two squash plants sprouted I was confused. In the area they sprouted it was just able to have two squash plants in them so I though it would be fine just to leave them (boy was I wrong) . It had seemed that they grow a lot in a short amount of time and the plants were really big, so big that we couldn't see if there was any squash ready. So you want to guess what happened... Well when we didn't see them they just when into the ground so more would grow, which means that we have like 5-7 different squash plants in a area only meant for two. They have gotten out of hand and I would love it if I would be able to get help in what I need to do. I have given myself responsibility to fix this problem for my family. So I hope that I will get the help that I need!
