Decorating around a baby grand piano in a small living room
Comments (24)We also turned our small living room into a music room. I think formal living rooms are a waste of space. Over the years, I have had the piano either half-way open or closed w/ photos on top. Fully open seems too much for the size of the room. I have a big chair in one corner and a 5'? potted silk plant in another. Our room opens up to the foyer/stairs and the dining room. In our last house, the piano was in a great room and we had a round, skirted ottoman in the curve ( a designer recommended that). The top was kind of pleated w/ one button in the center. Good luck!...See Moredecorating living around pole in living room?
Comments (21)Space is difficult to get a feel for. Is the second pic stretched? The room looks to be long and thin. I agree the only proper place for the TV is where the mirror is. The sectional would then need to come forward several feet. That will block the walk way so in my world the sectional doesn't fit. That pole is very unfortunate but with the stair case removing the railing is not going to achieve what you want. The stairs into the home and the placement of the fireplace, well you have two rooms not one in that area. You just re-did the fireplace? I think I would have removed it. It makes much more sense for the sectional and fireplace to swap places., but that isn't possible. Removing the railing, getting smaller furniture you can arrange around the room, you might be able to arrange a room around the pole as if the pole were a tall floor lamp. Still the part of the room under on the other side of the railing will never orientate to the fireplace or the TV, due to the staircase. That pole is where a walk way always will have to remain due to the stairs jutting into the room. I agree with the above, make the lower part of the room a dining room. That has to be why the railing is there to mark where the dining room begins....See MoreDecorators...help me finish this living room?
Comments (10)The shelf by the door looks a bit too utilitarian for an entry piece. You might move it in front of the window and load it with plants. Replace it with the piece that is behind the sofa and add a large round mirror above it (no wider than 75% of the furniture piece.) Don't paint the fireplace, but do add colorful art 5" above (no wider than the firebox below.) I would put glass shelves in the recess, and light it from above for a nice collection of items you'd want to display. I don't understand the rug behind the sofa and we don't know if there's a window or what in that part of the room, because we're missing a photo of that corner. I imagine that the sofa and rug could be pulled away from the fireplace a bit and centered in the whole space. Can you photo that corner from up the stairs a bit?...See MoreHow to decorate Living Room/Dining room and weirdly placed fireplace
Comments (30)We will need to be very creative with that budget. But it’s great you are thinking about it together now, because with a master plan you can add items as funds allow. We might want to keep your style to a “transitional” look and rely on accessories for punching up different looks. I would start with sofa, rug and one or two chairs plus a sofa table and arc lamp for living room. What do you need for bedroom? Dining room?...See MoreEco Method Interiors
