HomeMade Earth Box Design? FeedBack
Comments (13)Thanks Farkee for the food for thought ;-) I probably will invest in the real deal (Genuine Earthboxes) but this is just not the year to do it... I can talk my husband into perhaps a $20.00 expense, but not a $50.00+ expense, and because we are in Canada, with shipping and exchange working against us, it will definately be more!! Thanks for your ideas on the rocks, I am not so sure that a container filled with rocks and water or just water is more heavy, (don't underestimate the weight of water!) but the idea that it would take up 2/3's of the water is a good point, I did not think it would be that high! The cans are an interesting idea... I don't think soda cans would work here, not possible to take of the tops and bottoms, but ordinary cans would work... But this type of support system, just not sure what I will use, is likely the best way to go... I have seen Josho's containers earlier this weekend, very inspiring!...See MoreHow does this backyard look ,Need feed back and suggestion to complete
Comments (1)Perhaps you could explain it better. Is there a line of plants between the paver patio and the eating area? Do guests have to hop over that to dine? I do not know the scale but it looks like you are leaving sparse room for plants along the outside edges. If you plan to be outdoors during the summer I think you need at least one tree. Not sure you left room for a tree. I would also help to see a photo of the area....See MoreEarnest Deposit on New Construction Home...Can we get it back?
Comments (2)I'm sorry to hear about this issue. It is incredibly disappointing when something you have put time, money and energy into runs into a potentially deal killing issue like this. How far into construction are they? I do not have personal experience with this exact issue but it sounds like you could make a case for receiving your deposit back and walking away. This is a surprise circumstance different than what you previously discussed and agreed to. Were there any contingencies included that may assist you here? If you would prefer to stick with this new build, talk with the builder about ways to remedy the situation. Unfortunately these types of errors happen in design and construction so the builder should be experienced in creative problem solving from previous jobs. He or she should come to the table with possible solutions and it will be a more constructive conversation if you do the same beforehand. Are there any scenarios or solutions which the builder could implement that would make you want to stick with this home? Even if it costs the contractor money to implement, as long as it is less money than it will cost him or her to find a new buyer it will be a win win for you both. Best of luck with the conversation and the house...See Morefeed back on ADU design
Comments (29)1. An aging in place specialist. Maybe I am doing my search wrong, but every "specialist" I have found so far is with a building firm that modifies already existing kitchen and bathrooms. They only want to get involved if they do the build. 2. I can tell you that we have aleady spoken with the builder and told him that all cabinets must have pull out drawers. We got some kitchen design books and looked for the interesting tweaks. I scanned them and will send the list to builder later on. 3. I am well aware of the storage issue. I know I have to replace some furniture so it does double duty. I have asked for an extra wide (wide enough so doors on both sides of the car can open completely and an extra long garage. We are going to use that space for storage. 4. I know the image of the kitchen needs a lot of work. Wife wants a small sink (20-24 inches.). Since she used to run the test kitchen for a couple of large national food companies, (I cannot say their name, but you know them) I give her free reign as to what she wants there and what size. I have found out the hard way (we have been married for 40 years) that her kitchen ideas are always better then mine 4. We already have a 48 inch by 48 inch dining table with self-storing leave. Our current dining chairs can be pushed so the seat is entirely under the table. Ditto for a computer//office desk. I have a scandinavin design the has a large work area yet . can be closed down to a small cabinet, I am going to start another thread about appliance suggestions, solar et al. Otherwise this message thread is becoming too complex....See Morecpartist
