Hiding it: If you choose plantation shutters for the windows in your room, you could add narrow vertical shelving on each side of wherever you set the tv. Then add white horizontal shelving between those vertical shelving units -- installed at the same height as the top and the bottom of your window trim -- and add plantation shutters that will hide the tv as if you're covering another window. First thing you need to do is find the owner's manual for the fireplace and determine what the clearance to combustibles is above the opening. Someone mentioned 8" should be sufficient, but I seriously doubt that to be the case, particularly with a heat circulating gas fireplace like yours. You will probably need at least 12" to 18" above the opening depending on the depth of your mantel, if it is combustible (wood). If you use an Insulated Steel Mantel, you can get away with 12". Post the brand and model and I might be able to help you find the owner's manual if you don't have it. You will be able to locate the brand and model on a metal label somewhere inside. Usually it will be in the burner compartment behind the bottom grill, which normally folds down or can be removed.
