Silver lining maybe?
Comments (4)That would be great. I'm hoping this is good news for mine too as we had a very rare three days below freezing and my Dr. Seuss sure looks like toast. Kylie - Your experience is especially encouraging as I had at least 6" of mulch on it....See MoreTrimming Variegated Japanese Silver Grass (Miscanthus)
Comments (1)Hi Heather, I too am in zone 5. My clumps of Miscanthus sinensis 'Variegatus' look like they are just beginning to get ready to bloom. Could be a week or two at this rate. Comments (3)Dogwood shrubs root quite easily from dormant branches as well. Take your 6" cuttings from last years growth, pieces about a pencils thickness. In fact, dogwoods root very easily from layering and you may have some branches that have laid on the ground and have already rooted themselves naturally. Have a look around the base of the shrub to see if any branches have rooted where they touched the soil. In the spring, cut these branches from the "mother" shrub and dig up the new rooted branch. I allow some of my Silverleaf and Cream Cracker dogwoods to do this every year (and even bend branches down and bury a section in the soil)and dig up many new shrubs this way. Viburnums, Purple Smoke Bush, Blue Mist (Caryopteris) and Spireas are other shrubs I have layered to create new shrubs....See MoreGoing on a Wild shopping spree! Buying 2 or maybe 3 plants ;-)

K's varieties not always bloom true - and Kosmicheskaja Legenda almost never blooms true. if only one - Ness' Crinkle Blue.
