Seedlings and New Daylilies for Thursday

It's back and 90's today, and once again the air conditioning is not working right. I hope the repair guy gets here soon.

This seedling first bloomed last year. It is garden named "Nadine" and has a seven-inch bloom. It was supposed to be Victorian Lace x Lace Sampler, but I thought that was unlikely. It multiplied from one to three fans, and I hope it will continue to improve its height and bud count in coming years.

This is the last of the Cexy Samantha x Bubblegum Delicious kids, and it has the most bubbly white edge. At first I thought it was just another bloom on #2, since it has multiple scapes and multiple blooms today. It's a rose pink too, but the edge is different. I like all the flowers in the this cross.

Abiliene Lillian x Ruby Lipstick has a taller better-budded scape this year. I crossed it this morning with Rosie With A Ring.

Cretaceous Crunch x Julie Newmar doesn't have as many teeth as last year. Maybe it's weather-related.

Here's Alan Lane Agin X Cosmic Sensation. A lot of my seedlings over the years have this as a parent. It's very sunfast, well-budded and multiplies well. This is not a clump. These are two- and three-fan divisions in the line-out bed. At one time, I thought of registering this one, but now I'm thinking I won't.

Now for some new and almost new daylilies.

Persian Opal - The edge is very interesting on this one.

Hearts That Care - I got it last year, but this is the first time it's bloomed. Bright color, but I was expecting a bit more edge.

Empire of Dawn and Dusk - I got this one last year after Hoosier Nan raved about it's clean color and hybridizing value. This is the first year it's bloomed. Hoosier Nan was right!

Pistil Whipped - I got this one last year and it has multiplied well. I don't buy many dips, but I love this face.

Twirling Tower was one I bought last year that only had a few buds then. It's increased well and just started blooming today.

Now that first seedling is one that makes my heart sing!! I like everything about it, especially that color!

I slso like that Alan Lane Agin seedling-great color on it as well. Empire of Dawn and Dusk is indeed a looker and I see why you like it!

Pistil Whipped is lovely. I bet you are glad you got this dip, I’m glad i got to see it. Persian Opal is one i would like to see in person and check out that edge. The Bubblegum babies are all so nice. Is it going to be hard to narrow down the field?

Really pretty! I love daylilies. I found out my aunt has been hybridizing them since the early 70's. I was about 6 the last time I was at her house so didn't mean much at the time, lol. I hope to go sometime this year and see what she has. I bet she has some great ones.

Ooh La La! How stunning & photogenic all these are! You have some major beauties in this bunch for sure and I just love them all. Wow! Picking a favorite was tough and I had to look again & again to decide. I still am smitten with Duck's Dark Side since it is such a dramatic flower so that one is Numero Uno. Jean, my computer has the exta fan going whenever its too hot and you ask it to do something. Makes a big ruckus. I guess its really not that loud, just annoys me. Debra, JULIE NEWMAR was an absolutely dog in my garden large year. Then after I got that low stacked stone wall done in the front yard I knew I wanted to do a strong corner grouping of daylilies right there where the rose in the first of the bigger half round planter boxes. I used CITRIX as the center of the group with the bold strong color. It didn't need to be moved but since it was in the relocation garden already, it certainly could be. Then I moved softer colors in the off white tone around it from other areas all of which were not doing that well were they were. It turned out terrific and best of all those poor doers are all outstanding now in their new home. Isn't that the weirdest looking poly on SAMUEL BELL? Barely looks like a daylily!

Sherry - Which one or ones of the Cexy Sam kids gets registered will depend on plant habit. Right now, #2 is leading the way in that category. It is the tallest, has four fans and has double scaped, while the others are just one fan. But I can see keeping all of them because I love pinks, and they are so pretty.

Nice seedlings, that 1st one is wonderful. Pistol Whipped and Twirling Tower are my favorites of the named daylilies.

Now you know I am going to Ooh and Ah over that first gorgeous seedling. What a pretty color! Persian Opal is a pretty one and Pistil whipped is lovely.

I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw that pretty pink daylily of yours and it is named after my wonderful mother who has been cat sitting for me across the rainbow bridge since December 2002. It's not a common name nowadays.........Your other seedlings are also beautiful, and you can be rightly proud of them............Heat index yesterday was 111 with these high temps due until at least Monday. Saturday is the daylily show. I will be curious how that turns out given our weather this year............Maryl

Mantis - Yes, Houzz won't let my posts through that have Cexy with an S.

Maryl - I picked the name Nadine because I was reading a book with a character who had that name when it first bloomed last year. I needed an N name to go with the adjective I will put with it, if it ever becomes worthy of registration.

That first seedling is beautiful, ie "Nadine". Why do you think the cross is not correct? Purchased seeds? Nice pattern on Pistil Whipped. Love the ruffled edge on the Sexy Samantha x Bubblegum Delicious kid.

Julia - "Nadine" came out of my own seeds. There's just nothing in the background of Lace Sampler or Victorian Lace that's a pink, or that I think would produce something that large or that vibrant. It's more like something that would come out of Dancing Flamingo or Pink Extraordinaire. I do have memory issues, and I have mixed up pods during harvest before. I also have seeds I'm shelling from time to time fall on the floor. I think I've gotten the one that just dropped, but maybe it was from some other pod. The other thing I caught myself doing this Spring was planting seeds in the wrong cup. I plant two crosses at a time, and I was accidentally planting a seed from Cross A in the Cross B cup. There are many places in my process where I could have goofed. In any case, Nadine is a treasure.
