Frustrated...oil paint color to lacquer color
Comments (2)I had painted a board my cabinet color using the oil paint. It is still the same as my wood work. The paint company made a paper sample using the oil paint. Oddly enough, the paper sample is different. I'm not sure why this is. I just stopped by the cabinet place at lunch and gave them my bigger painted board and asked them to color match using it rather than the painted paper chip. I could clearly see the difference between the lacquer sample, the paper painted with oil sample and my larger wood painted with the oil sample in their shop. Hopefully the next try will work better. The lacquer sample oddly matched my computer speakers very nicely...you know the off-white ones that get uglier in time....See Moretotally frustrated with paint color!!! help me!!!!
Comments (19)Well, after all this time and all these samples, I think I may have finally decided. Believe it or not, the color I like is the same exact color that's been on my bedroom walls for several years now - SW Svelte Sage. Svelte looks like a neutral green on my bedroom walls, but somehow in the living room, it looks like the color I've been envisioning all along - a muted, sophisticated aqua or sea green. I don't see hardly any blue in the chip, but if there's any blue whatsoever in a color, my living room pulls it out like a vaccuum. I kind of wish the color was a tad bit lighter, but I tried Grassland, the lighter chip on the same strip, and thought it was too light. I also find it amazing how much the color can change. I did a big sample wall without bothering to go all the way to the ceiling and baseboards yesterday. I came back today and finished the edges, and the color looks significantly different just from getting rid of the tan that was still peeking out at the edges. Before I totally commit, I think I'll go buy a quart in the actual paint I plan to use. I was going to try to go with Aura, but since this is a SW paint, and SW is right down the street from me, I thought I'd go with Duration, or Harmony. I want to use a matte finish and still have something that can be wiped off. Any experience with SW's high end paints? I'll post some pics later this evening for your opinions....See MoreChalk paint overload, but I need more. Help!
Comments (10)The craigslist here isn't that great. Neither is the newspaper classifieds that is popular. I don't know why, maybe people are just frugal here and don't redecorate. I don't know. I can stop by the thrift store more often, but it's mostly crap. It's too bad. The city I moved from had a great CL. It's where I got my vintage dining set, both kids bedroom sets (my son has an awesome 50's western wagon wheel bed set) other accent furniture. The thing is that I don't want a super primitive look. Or too much chalk paint. I'm going for more of an English country style with some colonial style stuff too. K9arlene: Thanks! she's a labradoodle, just with a haircut. louislinus: I will explore the crate option. It looks like unfinished crates are only $8 a piece at HD. I think I could do something with them....See MoreGiallo Antico/cinnamon color cabinets OVERLOAD -- wall color help
Comments (18)Hi melle. I’ve just read through your post again. The mockup by eam44 (two days ago) and note about balance sums it all up. That mockup convinced me that you can really make difference in this kitchen! I agree with you 100% on saying no to a dyi job. I would only hire a pro to remove the backsplash. I encourage you to get some quotes! I also agree with all who have recommended white paint, but I would not have a clue as to which. Seems that would be worth having a SW designer come to help you choose. This alone would make a major difference in your kitchen, and you could get blinds to match. Home Depot cuts to size for a reasonable cost. Replacing the hardware and faucet would be good idea, too. ORB comes to mind, given the color of your wood (which is beautifully warm.) Would cup pulls for your lower cabinets line up with the existing holes?...See MoreUser
