To add either of those will require some work on the roof since there is little space to work with above the door. Maybe just a simpler style metal awning with no scalloped trimand change the supports to something simpler too .I would also at least paint the front door a brighter color or get one more MCM style then go to work on the landscping by starting with a walkway from the street to the front door always a more welcoming idea that from your driveway,

A gable or shed roof porch would not be inexpensive and I think you'll loose a lot of charm with a plain entry. If you do go this route, I think a gable would look better. I would not put railings on the front, maybe only the side, if code allows. Paint the ceiling haint blue.

Love your garden, although the tall plant seems to be too big for the area.

Or go for more of a pergola look for the roof? This also looks like yours with the planter swapped for your metal. Changing your numbers and light would be fun, too, as in this photo. You have a darling house!

Your house is adorable! i would simply replace it with a new version of what you currently have. Replace the metal rails/ posts with white wood/ woodlook vinyl and replace the storm door with a clear glass version.

I think this one is doable. since you're doing the roof, have them do this and elongate the porch.

what about this one? painted brick, black trimmed windows, simple overhang (like above) slightly different porch posts. The slate tile porch, extended over to one side, and the pathway w/flower beds, really add a lot.

do a little arbor, redo the porch w/some coposite wood decking, or maybe some black slate tile w/wood steps. Get a more modern door.

I hope you go w/a dark charcoal roof tile.

here's the gable you mentioned. porch is simple. what do you think about painting the brick? Look at Romabio Lime Masonry paint. all natural.

what if you extended the roof over the front door similar to this? bring in some chunky cedar posts, new door, NO shutters. maybe paint the trim of the windows. They painted the brick black in this one. looks great w/the cedar
