Photosynthesis, Thank you so much for the info. That's funny it's not even a philodendron! I am relieved to hear it looks healthy!!! I do have many more questions please! I cut two brown leaf stems off, about 3" from the base of the plant (where it got wider). Is this correct or should I re-cut it off to the base? Should I cut that other large black speckled one off, or do I leave it? Since it is in the nursery pot, is it ok to put it into a different planter (Ceramic w/drainage hole)? It is winter here and snowing - 30 degrees on average. Or does that need to wait until the spring? I've read different things on the watering - some say to keep it moist, others say to let it fully dry out.. Which is working best for yours? I have it currently in a west window, directly in the sunlight in the morning. I've been finding little black bugs I think crawling out of the pot... They are not the common bugs I keep googling/reading about I think- and they don't fly I think... Is the diameticus earth powder the best solution for this? Or will re-planting help this? It's in my bedroom so I'm not completely ok with random bugs coming out of it :/ Thank you so much!!!!

it can be bacterial too. and bacterial is very hard to get rid off. I've been fighting something I think is bacterial fro sev years now on my one large philo. Azamax soil drench helped a lot to slow it down. I cut off and rerooted the tips which were less effected then older leaves. they were ok for half a year, but then strated showing the spots again. so azamax to the rescue..but it's tiresome. my spots are different from yours though, and the plant still grows OK. I've been looking at philos in FL grown outside and they all have the signs.

This one has me a bit puzzled--not much bothers philodendrons, as long as they receive the amount of water and sunlight that they need. The yellow spots on the foliage are not normal for this plant. From the photos, they look like small, dry, sunken areas of necrotic (dead) tissue. Thrips cause damage like this, but I saw no evidence of these insects in the photos (the critters themselves, or their excrement). The pattern of damage left behind by thrips is also more concentrated, as they feed while moving across a leaf. Might anything--household cleaners or polishes, for example--have gotten sprayed on the leaf? This spotting could be a chemical burn, in which case you would simply leave it alone. Unless subject to additional exposure, these burns would not spread. Once additional leaves form, you could remove this one, if you find it unsightly. The other possibility is leaf spot, most likely caused by a fungal infection. Bacteria also cause leaf spot diseases, but the infected tissue is usually wet/slimy. If it's a fungal infection, it will likely spread across the leaf. If the plant had more leaves, I would suggest removing the infected one. Since it does not, and since the green areas of the leaf are still producing food for the plant, I would simply monitor its condition. Once new leaves develop, you can remove the infected one. You could apply a fungicide that is approved for use on indoor plants to new leaves as they develop. Can’t get a good look at them, almost looks like some sort of black aphid. How do they move if you disturb them or do they squish easily? tj
