Comments (13)Hi Wade, Is the pine bark you're using sold as "Pine Bark" or "Pine Bark Mulch" and are you buying it in bags or in bulk?. I know a few of the landscape companies down this way use a combination of pine bark, pine timber off-cuts (treated and untreated) when they are making mulch in fact all the rubbish and ofcuts goes into their mulch. With these blokes everything goes into the mulcher and I have seen treated pine in some mulches as the green colouring is a dead giveaway. When I enquired about treated timber in the mix one bloke very sheepishly said, "there could have been a little bit of treated timber got mixed in with it". When I explained what copper can do to brom's he replied that he "sells mulch and it's not meant to be used for potting plants in". So if you're buying your bark in bulk be careful. I find the bagged bark sold as Brunnings Cymbidium Orchid mix is very good and was recommended to me by a prominent bromeliad grower. Like Pom said, copper is a common ingredient in a lot of fungicides also and not just in Thailand so read the labels carefully. I agree with what Allan said at the start of this thread, that a picture of the plants in question would be very helpful. All the best, Nev...See More3 ornamental alliums are sick - see this pic
Comments (0)by cheerpeople click on it to make it bigger... 3 sick allium. Any ideas why? I love allium- every year I buy more. Most look better than these! the Left two are globemaster. Planted in different areas. I wonder if the wilted stem on the top one has to do with a mole nearby? It has another globemaster bulb right next to it (probably attached) that is just fine. I also have several globemaster elsewhere that are doing just fine... The one in the middle is a purple sensation. I have seen this happen for several years-but no idea why. There are several with this problem and all of not most close by to one another. Also not pictured I have read allium 'purple sensation' does not grow as good in coloration if grown from seed. I have purchased them from Farm and fleet and walmart different years. I see some are a much lighter color than others. Do you think these places are selling seed grown bulbs? or is there that much variation in color with this cultivar? thx for your help:) Karen...See MoreBag Of Tricks (6 pics)
Comments (20)I think it's pretty much about responsible disposal... It's been a lot of years since I have wandered a beach. But even 30 years or so ago, there were flip flops, broken plastic toys, take out containers and such. I learned as a teen ( and that was a looong time ago!) that if you find a piece of mono filament....to follow it as far as you can because there is usually a hook on the end waiting to imbed itself into your foot! Somewhere I have a picture of a beach on one of the Comoros Islands in the Indian ocean....at low tide.....a reef of trash....and as primitive as that place is, there was lots and lots of plastic. From their earliest memory, the people of Anjouan have tossed their garbage into the ocean to be washed away by the tides.....but in the past 30 or so years, that trash has become largely plastic.....and their reef is dying. I wish wh could go back to paper bags....trees are a renewable resource and a crop to be farmed....not so plastic....See Morehelp my Imperial Green Philodendron
Comments (10)Hi, I know everyone says it's overwatering because it's the most common reason for a sick plant, but I have this type of philodendron too, and same thing happened. The leaves got brownish and yellow all around the leaves and became much thinner. For me, it was a bacterial issue. If it's not too late for your plant or for other people reading this, here's how to fix the issue. - cut off the sick parts of your leaves. - with a clean rag dipped in lemon water, wipe the cut edge of the leaf to gently disinfect them - Keep it under close watch in case the patches reappear. Also, make sure it's not near other philodendrons, as to not contaminate them. To prevent it from coming back, only water you philodendron from the bottom. If you mist the leaves, mist it with lemon water. Or even better, if you need to increase humidity, don't mist and instead, put your plant's pot on a plate of wet peebles. Good luck fellow plant lovers !...See MoreUser
