Breville Toaster Oven BOV800XL
Comments (13)I have owned the Breville800XL for 2yrs. Purchased at BB&B w/20% coupon. It is used almost daily, not one problem yet. 4kids, my mom, husband, father n law and myself. I have baked whole chicken, pasta dishes, pizza, all types of frozen kid foods, scratch banana/pumpkin breads, scratch pound cakes, cookies, bundt and cupcakes the (6 muffin pan). It toasts sliced bread and bagels just fine. It is digital, has a timer, convection, warming feature. During rebuild, it was used as our primary oven for months. I have a friend that loved my breville, purchased a less expensive $80 and has thrown it out, "piece of junk". Some people would never spend 200 dollars on a toaster oven. For us, it was well worth it!...See MoreBreville smart oven - convection also
Comments (7)Love these "smart" appliances. My DH is cooking away in his Father's Day present, the Sharp R-820 in silver/stainless interior. It is like our larger R-930CS in features plus it has the ability to grill top and bottom of a burger or steak at the SAME TIME. He LOVES IT. And, it also cooks a mean turkey breast, even in the smaller oven. He told me this morning that when he used it to do his dinner last night, THE OVEN TOLD HIM HE NEEDED TO COVER THE EDGES A LITTLE MORE. I think that REALLY impressed him! He said he would carry on a conversation with it, but someone might overhear and not understand that it was such a smart appliance. This is my third such Sharp appliance, and I really like the convection, microwave, and the automatic MIX feature where it combines the two styles of cooking. I'm not much into baking, except for cornbread and cinnamon rolls and Grands biscuits, but the stove I want is a 24" Bertazzoni with a convection gas oven about the size of my Sharp oven, but without a turntable. I cannot wait to get a real gas stove so I can stir fry in my new Lodge cast iron wok and use all those heavy pans on the stove. Another small appliance that I have is a submersible hand mixer. It is a great buy from Amazon.com. I use it to whip up the eggs for omelettes, then just take it apart and stick the two pieces back in the silverware drawer. I have a hand mixer, but it is awkward to use and I've forgotten where I put it, to be honest. It hasn't been all that long ago that I finally let go of the wedding present hand mixer which had been around since 1958. They sure don't build them like that anymore, do they!! I also have an old Kenmore blender, which has endured for years. The new high powered Braun quit working for some reason, so DH tossed it. Too bad, never knew what happened. It looked like a dream machine, used it to make frozen drinks....See MoreToaster Oven and/or Toaster...
Comments (13)We just have a toaster oven, and it took forever to find a new one that would toast bread as well as the old GE one we were getting rid of (it caught fire periodically so hard to justify keeping much longer!) We have the compact Breville and it does the job, but I don't think it's quite as good as a toaster would be. Still, it's FAR better than the others we tested--Philips, Cuisinart, Krups, and Hampton Beach. A lot of them dried the toast out because of the way the heating elements work on the toast cycle...the Breville doesn't do this, but also doesn't toast the two sides exactly the same for some reason (so one side will be more lightly browned than the other). It does have a bagel setting that I haven't played with much. Since we use our toaster oven for cooking frequently, it was definitely staying, and we don't have enough counter space to justify having a separate toaster too. If you do and you eat toast regularly (we really just eat it on weekends) it might be worth the space, especially since you already own it....See MoreToaster or Toaster Oven?
Comments (38)"Elmer, I hope you understand that because a toaster oven is unnecessary to you it doesn't mean that it's unnecessary for everyone." Yes, of course. I was expressing my own opinion and why. "Do you have a microwave oven? That's unnecessary to me. I can heat water in a kettle. I can cook food and warm leftovers on the stove or in the oven. I seldom eat popcorn and wouldn't eat microwaved popcorn if I did. I defrost meat in the fridge or on the counter for a few hours. A microwave is just counter clutter since I have other equipment to do the job a microwave does." Yes we do. It's built in to the cabinets on a shelf (not over the stovetop and not on the counter). We don't use it that much. We've never used it to heat water, to cook food, or to make popcorn. We have little frozen meat, mostly purchased seafood only, and what he have is defrosted in the fridge as you describe you do....See Moresushipup1
