Just be careful what you decide to get rid of. I have donated a lot of decent clothes over the years to find that the equivalent nowdays (if there even is one) is so expensive I can't afford to replace them with anything decent. Furniture is very tricky too. Charities won't take upholstered items without intact fire labels and my armoires do not have toughened glass which is also a requisite now. We moved from a period barn conversion to an ultra modern house. Nothing looks right in here so starting again. No fan of Marie Kondo. I am in the UK. The memories are priceless tied up in some of the items.

Decluttering is definitely a continuous process. I have been downsizing and decluttering for about 2 years now. It is rare to be able to declutter in one fell swoop… it is only with time that you naturally realise what you actually need and what you don’t. Less is definitely more!

So, an update on my decluttering. I had a friend fly in from across the country for a week to help me go through everything in the basement. we ended up going through three closets and two large basement storage rooms. Probably got rid of two or three car loads worth of stuff. Ended up turning the end of the week into a girls reunion and another friend flew in from across the country as well. She had just lost a fair amount of weight and I ended up giving her a suitcase full of clothes which was much needed. One thing I found out is that even though I have some high value items it's almost impossible to find the market to sell things and "buyers" want something for nothing. I realize that going forward that buying something with the possible intention of having it be resold later is a losing proposition so the best way to not be in this predicament is to buy and collect less. Reduce consumption. Lesson learned.
