I was observing two men that were working for the public works department. One would dig a hole and the other would follow behind him and fill the hole in. After a while I had to ask, "Why do you dig a hole, only to have your partner follow behind and fill it up again?" The hole digger wiped his brow and sighed, "Well, I suppose it probably looks odd because we're normally a three-person team. But today the lad who plants the trees called in sick."

I did learn how to open pickles. Take a church key type can opener and use the rounded end gently pry up on the edges of the lid...keep going around and around with a gentle pry and all of a sudden you'll hear the pfff which is the vacuum seal releasing. Then the lid will come off easily.

The tenant in the basement apt has called the city on me a number of times because I take the trash and recycling out the day before for early collection; even though other neighbours have theirs out as well. "Gladys" as I like to call her says that they look ugly for people to be walking by. This is unsightly to her, apparently. She's the reason there are 2 garbage bins out there, she refuses to use the green bins, and they're often crawling with maggots when I take them to the curb.
