Link between pesticides and Type II Diabetes
Comments (6)"nc, because two of the pesticides mentioned in the article does that mean we should disregard this article or maybe think about what other things out there mightdo the same thing? " No, I'm just saying the two chemicals...the only ones in that study that found noted increased links of diabetes...have been unavailable in the US for quite some time. I've read the original report in Environmental Research and those are the only two linked to a statistically significant elevation of diabetes. On the matter of POPs...on this very board I've spoken about the dangers of them to the environment when I was talking about chelating materials used in some organic nutrient amendments. I'm not saying "all POPs are safe" or "all but these are safe"...I'm just saying the 2 noted in the study are unavailable in the US. One, in particular, B-HCH should be banned world wide, though it's still commonly used in many African and Asian nations which imports food to Europe. It's a horrible (yet effective) pesticide which breaks down into horrible organic substances. I understand POPs are not good things depending on what they degrade down into (which aren't always safe and can be more dangerous than the initial product) and some POPs are dangerous because of how long they take to break down to inert substances. All I'm saying is the 2 "most horrible" noted chemicals in this particular study are unavailable in the US. That's all......See Morehummers with type2 diabetes?
Comments (19)well i see the results! not in the hummers since theya are sleeping when i get to work, but i do see the feeders. the 1 to 3 doesn't appear to have been touched since i put the 1 to 1 up. in one day,it is at least half gone- a little over 16 oz. capacity. as for home, my little hummer can't eat that fast. but, it guards the feeder from the second one nearly all day. there are several feeding at the work feeders. the most hilarious thing i just saw: as the hummer was perched on the clothesline it kept flinging, and i do mean flinging and flipping, that long tongue out. too funny. then, i realized it was preening. hmmmmm, lots of critters? another thought has been bugging me. i see them perched jerking their heads in all directions, pointing the beaks up, and some throat movements. could be all territorial displays, but i really wonder if they are singing outside of our hearing range....See Morediabetic kitty
Comments (14)Thanks everyone for all the encouragement. Last night I stopped to talk to the vet and he was not in. He is supposed to call me today to answer some of my questions. I decided to get the dry food just to get moving in the right direction and not delay his diet change. I fed all 3 last night and this morning the dry kibble. They are not happy with me and I could tell the were confused because we always have cans in the morning...and we have a little ritual. Today I spent a good bit if time time researching foods and I want to propose to him using EVO. The have no grains. I would like to do partial wet and partial dry. ( the dry is very high in protein and half the carbs of Purina "prescription"- which is what he had - not Hills like I was expecting) I really don't see how the food he gave me will significantly alter his sugars in 2 weeks. Purina DM first 5 ingredients: Poultry by-product meal, soy protein isolate, corn gluten meal, soy flour, animal fat preserved with mixed-tocopherols (form of Vitamin E), guaranteed analysis Crude Protein (Min) 51.00% Crude Fat (Min) 15.00% Crude Fiber (Max) 3.00% Moisture (Max) 12.00% Vitamin A (Min) 18,000 IU/kg Vitamin E (Min) 100 IU/kg Carbohydrate* (Max) 18.00% EVO first 5: Turkey, Chicken Meal, Chicken, Herring Meal, Chicken Fat (Preserved with Mixed Tocopherols, a Natural Source of Vitamin E) Crude Protein (Min) 50.00% Crude Fat (Min) 22.00% Crude Fiber (Max) 2.00% Moisture (Max) 10.00% Carbohydrates NFE (Max) 7.00% Linoleic Acid (an Omega-6 Fatty Acid) (Min) 4.00% Magnesium (Max) 0.10% Vitamin E (Min) 300.0 IU/kg Taurine (Min) 0.20% Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C) (Min) 500.0 mg/kg Omega-3 Fatty Acids (Min) 0.40% DHA + EPA (Min) 0.10% Total Microorganisms (Min) 90.0 CFU/lb Wellness brand is very close to the same as EVO I am very confused about exactly what I should do....King is really not himself. I wish I could snap my fingers and make it all go away! All of my cats are litter mates, 9 years old...so i guess I am setting myself up for multiple problems. I just had Lucky in about 8 weeks ago for urinary infection. Suzieque...I do not want to stay on a dry food diet...I cant see anyway for that to be good long term Goldedger thanks for the links...I am learning a lot! I think I am going to get some fresh meat tonight at the store...I wish the vet woudl call already!...See MoreAre you eliglble to get the Covid vaccine now? If so, have you?
Comments (95)Happy to say got our 2nd Pfizer doses today. As i have said before in other threads, I felt like it was a scavenger hunt. I followed every rumor, signed up every where I could. When it seemed that I really got us appointments I was still thinking it wasn't going to be. The only good thing i can say is that at least for us, the dispensing was so incredibly well run and orderly. We had 12:15 appointment , got there about 5 minutes ahead, waited maybe 5 minutes and got our shots. There were no long lines, but a constant steady light flow. It seems they have it together. They don't really examine what time your appointment is but just confirm that you are scheduled for the day. That way it flows nicely. So , so far only a little soreness on my arm as I had last time. Hopefully that will be it. YAY....See MoreZalco/bring back Sophie!
